We're a group of gay men interested in hiking, mindfulness practice and socializing. The Bay Area is so rich with incredible natural beauty, and this is a chance for gay men to come together to hike and explore the many hiking trails here while practicing mindfulness and meeting others with similar interests. Hiking meditation is just like walking meditation, only it's done while surrounded by the inspiring beauty and natural splendor of a wilderness hike. This is mindfulness and presence in motion, where one totally focuses on the moment, the movements of the body, the step that is presently being taken, our breath and our awareness of the stimuli coming into the senses via looking, listening, sensing and smell. This group is for gay men interested consciousness studies or in developing presence, mindfulness, meditation practice or self inquiry. Perfect for beginners or those with plenty of experience with meditation.
The format is as follows:
1. Meet at the designated trail head in the very early afternoon
2. The organizer will give a brief introduction to the practice of walking/hiking meditation
3. Hike in meditative silence
4. Take a break for snacks and socializing, and then
5. Hike back to the trail head while continuing to talk/socialize.
This group is best suited for those in medium to excellent condition who have some hiking experience and agility, as some of the hikes involve mountainous or steep grades. By coming on these hikes, you agree to take full responsibility for any injuries you may sustain while with us.
If you want to bring snacks to share, that's great. And though pets are adorable, this probably isn't the type of hike on which to bring them along. Look forward to seeing you on the trail!
