Ghost walk of Old Montréal

Place d'Armes (map)

Selected By: Adrienne

Okay, this calendar item is a long shot for most of the BAGH membership, but I did arrange a special day and rate for this ghost walking tour with Old Montréal Ghosts and on the chance anyone is going to be in Montréal on August 7, it would be remiss of me not to let everyone know about it. This is also the handiest method I have for members of Anticipation, the 67th World Science Fiction Convention, to make their reservations.

One of my favorite things to do when I travel is take the local ghost walking tour. I enjoy ghost folklore and history and it’s an excellent way to gain a different perspective about the city I’m visiting. A ghost walk is offered in Montréal and I’d like to invite other members of Anticipation and any BAGH strays to join me.

Spirits and ghosts haunt the precinct of Old Montreal…their memories filled with legends, criminal intrigue, mysteries and hidden secrets. In the west of Old Montréal, they make you shiver with new stories and legends. Exploring the macabre side of the city will bring on goosebumps for sure...

A special time and rate for an English-speaking tour has been arranged for Anticipation attendees. The meeting point for the tour will be at Place d’Armes, which is located within walking distance from the Delta Centre-Ville and Palais des Congrès. This is a walking tour, so be sure to wear comfortable walking shoes and dress as warmly as you require.

This tour regularly operates on Wednesday and Saturday nights, but neither night is particularly convenient for Anticipation members (at least, not for those who want to attend the masquerade). This special group rate allows a $2 (Canadian) discount.

Please rsvp to reserve your spot. Ticket price quoted is converted to American dollars, even if it says Canadian. Tours last approximately 90 minutes.

Gadzooks! Problems between Meetup website and Amazon Payments. Meetup will only show the rate as Canadian, but Amazon Payments will process them as American. Go figure.

We just now walked past the square where we will meet. It was about 10:30 PM and the square itself is very small and gated (it looked closed). But it will be very easy to spot anyone standing around outside the gates waiting for the tour. No one else was around! Don't worry. BTW, we had a very light rain tonight, so we were glad we had our umbrellas.

Sorry, it is not the small square we saw last night - it is larger but we still don't think it will be hard to find each other.

The tour guide was excellent. He was entertaining and fun. The backdrop of old buildings were beautiful. I recommend Old Montréal Ghosts to both visitors and residents of Montréal, especially since my efforts to find and purchase a book on either Montréal or Quebec ghostlore were fruitless. If you're looking for ghost stories in the English language, this may be the best place to go.

Our guide was wonderful. He was knowledgable, funny, smart and very personable. Many of us wanted to thank him and tip him, but he ran off at the end of the tour.

While Old Montreal is beautiful by night,. the ghost walk seemed to lack ghosts. Most of the stops were more local history (which was fascinating.) Our guide was wonderful, but walked extremely fast which was a challenge to some members. One complaint. We started at the Place des Armes. Our guide left us at a different location and simply vanished at the end of the tour. At night, in an unfamiliar city. That struck me as a very odd and disturbing way to end a tour.
