Introduction

I am founder of Syntience Inc, a competitor in the AI research field. I joined this meetup to track Numenta's progress. :-)

Have you done any work with NuPIC or other HTM Software?

I've avoided HTM for IP reasons, but I'm an expert on Connectionism and several other relevant AI methodologies. I agree with Jeff Hawkins and Dileep on many things; We work in non-competing applications domains and maybe we can share some insights.

How long have you been working in machine learning, AI, etc.?

I was teaching AI (as a TA) at my U in 1979. I wrote 3 expert systems for Cisco 1989-1995 and have worked with NLP and other weak AI since 1982. I've been working full time on Artificial Intuition since 2001 except '04-'06 while at Google.

What Monica is saying about this Meetup Group

It may be tricky to decide on suitable application domain for projects that use HTM. Some problems look easy, some hard, but whether they are easy or hard to do with HTM is not obvious at first glance. Discussing implementation experiences and listening to war stories is a good way to get a feel for what problems are suitable for HTM or other connectionist methods. Phillip and the others from Numenta have expressed the intent to explain the basics of HTM to the group so as to lift everyone to a minimum familiarity level. But my experience from the AI meetup is that every event will have some number of people there for the first time. Perhaps we should just discuss things at every which level and hope that the newcomers will get it through osmosis.

  • Hi Monica,

Sorry you can't make it on Sunday, but keep us in mind for future bridge events. It sounds like you're our kind of bridge player. I'll let you know about the next game if you would send me your email address. Please send it to [masked].

    Thanks.

  • Hi Monica,
I've started several AI groups related to Thrun & Norvig's Stanford's CS 221 open course http://www.meetup.com/NYCs-Stanford-A... . A friend gave me the vision to connect meetups so people traveling might have compelling meetups to go to. He's done a great job of securing terrific speakers and industry participants interested to support the meetings. Let me know if you'd care to brainstorm about cooperation.
    Best & cheers,
    Sean

  • After a short trip to the Bay Area I had to go back to Paris but had the chance to enjoy an AI meetup there. Now I see that you are starting to post live and recorded sessions more and more often and I just wanted to thank you for that. Im sure lots of people wished they could attend but can't and now they have easier and easier access to the content so thank you again for the organization overall and the broadcast in particular!

  • Hi Monica. You have some great experience. Perhaps we can chat at one of the monthly social mixer events. I'd like to hear more about your work. Welcome to the Emerging Artist Group! Joe.
