About Striding Strong
Striding Strong was founded to bring women together through walking, running, and hiking. The goal is to provide women with a fun fitness activity that also provides social activities and a means to make new friends. This is a non-competitive group, hoping to bring together a wide-range of women across all age groups and demographics. And, yes, even though this is primarily a group for women, men are welcome, too.
Where are most of our events held?
Primarily along the 680 corridor from Pleasanton to Danville, and in Castro Valley. We'll have occasional outings in Lafayette, Oakland, Berkeley, Walnut Creek and Livermore.
Moms with Young Children
All walks are stroller-friendly, unless specifically noted in the event description. These walks are on paved paths at local parks or along bike trails. The walks will usually begin and end near play structures, so you can give your some play time after the walk and socialize some more with other moms in the group. Yes, dads with small children are welcome, too!
Moms with School-Age Children
Older children are welcome to attend our events, too. Some members with elementary-aged children walk or run while their children ride along on a bike or scooter.
We schedule regular runs on Sunday morning. Sometimes we'll offer more options, when members offer to host a walk or hike. I'm not available to lead evening events, but if that's what you're looking for, let me know. You could become an assistant organizer and get events going for those who are only available after work.
About the Founder
I've been an avid walker and hiker throughout my life. I like to get outside for exercise daily and am always looking for new people to enjoy walking with. People seem to really open up while walking - talking while walking is a great way to get to know other people. I have a toddler that I bring along with me on most of the walks.
