The Crown Syncopators, an illustrious ragtime ensemble, will join you in our living room Saturday, April 13 at 2:00 PM.
Each member of the ragtime supergroup The Crown Syncopators is a celebrated musician:
- Virginia Tichenor (drums) as a pianist with the Devil Mountain Jazz Band, solo ragtime pianist, and collaborator with her father, notable ragtime historian and composer Trebor Tichenor;
- Marty Eggers (tuba) as a bassist with popular bands such as Bo Grumpus, Don Neely’s Royal Society Jazz Orchestra, the Butch Thompson Trio, and the Carl Sonny Leyland Trio;
- Frederick Hodges (piano) as a pianist with the Royal Society Jazz Orchestra, the Peter Mintun Orchestra, and various jazz ensembles, as well as a frequent accompanist of silent films.
Together, they celebrate the excitement, brilliance, and power of ragtime — the defiant, in-your-face music that energized youth culture at the turn of the last century.
You will not be disappointed. Bring a friend and introduce him or her to something old, and also new.
Admission: $20 in advance, $22 at the door
(All proceeds go to the musicians)
