Two great mandolinists from very different musical backgrounds form one of the sweetest collaborations in the history of their chosen instrument.
Mike Marshall is a master of mandolin, guitar, mandocello, and violin who has created adventurous instrumental music for over 35 years. He can be heard on hundreds of recordings in genres ranging from bluegrass to jazz to Brazilian choro, and his concert tours have taken him around the globe.
Caterina Lichtenberg is a world-renowned classical mandolinist and guitarist. Born in Bulgaria and educated in Germany, she has won numerous international music competitions and has more than 10 CDs to her credit. She maintains a regular schedule of tours throughout the United States, Japan, Europe, and South America.
And they are coming to our home in Oakland. Together, Mike and Caterina take you on a journey from the mandolin’s origin in the 1600s, through its golden age in 19th-century Italy, to its later adoption by musicians in America and the British Isles. Their technical ability and musical sensitivity can transform the room into an almost spiritual place.
“These two musicians are among the best mandolinists on the planet.” –Utne Reader
