Lightroom 5 - Sneak Peek!

Join us for an inside look at all the new features in Lightroom 5!

And if you want to check it out before the meeting, the Lightroom 5 public beta is now available, and can be freely downloaded here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/lightroom5/

As usual, we'll have pizza and socializing from 6:30 to 7:00, and the presentation itself will start at 7:00 and go until 8:00.  We'll have some time for questions afterwards.  Limited parking is available in the Adobe garage, and free street parking is generally easy to find.  Hope to see you there!

Nice to see the new features. Shameless pitch: I teach Lightroom! See my class schedule at http://www.lumiograph.com/blog/classes/ or contact me for individual lessons

Great presentation! It was great having the engineers there as well. The three of you together did a great job explaining the changes as well as some questions I had about LR and metadata in general.

Great meetup, as always. Ben was in rare form!

    Quote of the night:

Q: "How do you choose what new features end up in the beta and new versions?"
    A: "Dartboard."

Great presentation. The smart previews and updated healing brush look interesting. Thanks for doing it.

  • Art B.

Great job as always, these have been really informative meetups. The big question for me is if these upgrades are enough to make this worthy of a lightroom 5 designation and not a just 4.5 update? The full screen key is great, as is the round movable gradation. Worth an upgrade price? Not so sure.

Thank you, good presentation, the hour and a half went by fast. Using 4 but will download 5 shortly. Any chance we could have a photographer speak about their web site that uses LR to up load? Thanks again and see you next time.

Maybe this time they will have a badge for me? Don't know why but after 4 or 5 meetings I still can't get no sticking badge.

Thanks Jen, I'll look into that.

uh-oh I was going to shoot the moon tonight. Moonrise is around 8pm. Let me think about this.

!See you guys at the Sneak Peak! Bringing a friend, trying to turn her on to LR.

I have to cancel at the last something came up at work and I can not get out of it and this is really burning me because I want to come to this class.

    April 25, 2013

  • David K.

Downloaded LR5B and will work with it instead of fighting the traffic from S. SJ. Maybe there would be a better turnout for San Jose area meetings if they were more actively promoted. Three hours on the rode plus a two hour meeting is a trade off with five hours with a beta copy of LR 5.

    April 23, 2013

    • Benjamin W.

Hi David, Sorry we'll miss you! I welcome any specific ideas you have about how best to promote the meetup.

      April 23, 2013

That's kind of how I feel about going to Sunnyvale for the Sports Basement Night Photog meetup.

I've been looking into having a photo web site. What about this Smug Mug? Are there other sites that offer LR interface compatibility?

    1 · April 24, 2013

    • Stuart N.

I use the SmugMug plugin and it works fine. SlickPic is another gallery site that has a Lightroom plugin.

      2 · April 24, 2013

    • jbdata

Any chance we could have some photo web site reps give the user group a demo?

      April 25, 2013

  • George H.

Something came up - I guess I'll download the beta

    April 24, 2013

it's enough you south bay guys took the 49R's now you want LR5 in SJ too! LOL :)

    1 · April 23, 2013

  • Denny W.

Oh... you know that the Bay Area has more users of Lightroom than the San Jose Area....spoken by a Bay Area resident of course...

    April 23, 2013

  • Darrell C.

Hate to miss it. Something came up.

Will the ability to save photos as .PNG be in our future?

    April 16, 2013

    • Benjamin W.

Hi Stuart, the public beta of Lightroom 5 will import PNG files, but will not export files as PNG.

      April 16, 2013

  • Steven J.

Ben, looking forward to being in class and just wanted to know if you have given any more thought to passing out a single photo to the class and see the different views.

    1 · April 16, 2013

    • Benjamin W.

Hi Steven, yes, I think it's a great idea, and you guys all seemed to think so too, so we'll definitely do it! But since our public beta of Lightroom 5 just came out, our mission seemed clear this time. ;-)

Any chance of an encore in SJ?

    1 · April 15, 2013

    • Benjamin W.

Hi Paul, Probably not. We stopped doing presentations in San Jose due to incredibly low turnout. But maybe this would be a good opportunity to try again. I'll discuss with my co-host. And in the meantime, you can see how much SJ interest you can drum up among your fellow members. :-)

      1 · April 16, 2013

I would prefer SJ. I work in Santa Clara

Interested in the book publishing aspects. Will there be only one book source publisher?

    April 16, 2013

    • Benjamin W.

Blurb remains the only publisher that Lightroom connects with directly. But Lightroom will also export your book as a PDF, which you can then send to the publisher of your choice.

      April 16, 2013

  • Joe C.

Looking forward to seeing all of the LR5 new features, and will be available to answering any questions regarding the Book Module and Blurb Books in general.
