Lightroom User Group - Last Minute Edition

Hi All,

Whoa, the end of the month really snuck up on me here.  Sorry for the late notice, this meeting will be held this coming Tuesday, the 24th.

This past Wednesday we released an updated version of Lightroom mobile, and we also released Lightroom mobile for iPhone!  We will demo the new Lightroom mobile features.

However, that will probably take all of 10 minutes.  So, due to my total lack of planning, we'll do things a little differently this month.  Do you have a Lightroom question, or a particular topic you'd like to learn about?  Send me your topic suggestion (in a private message to me via Meetup) and I will present on a selection of the submitted topics.  Or, if I get a whole bunch of different suggestions, I'll put some of them up here for a vote on Monday, and then we'll talk about whatever gets the most votes.  Suggestions can be as focused or as broad as you like, though I'll be more likely to cover several focused topics rather than one broad topic.

This presentation will assume that you have a certain baseline knowledge of Lightroom.  If you're new to Lightroom you may benefit from watching my "Intro to Lightroom" presentation before attending this meeting:  https://seminars.adobeconnect.com/_a227210/p8jckoamiq8/?launcher=false&fcsContent=true&pbMode=normal

In addition, this meeting will also assume that you have a certain baseline knowledge of Lightroom mobile.  So, if you're unfamiliar with Lightroom mobile, you may benefit from watching my "Intro to Lightroom mobile" presentation before attending this meeting:  https://my.adobeconnect.com/p60lvws3vm2/

As usual we'll have pizza and socializing from 6:30 to 7:00, and the presentation itself will begin at 7:00.  Limited parking is available in the Adobe garage, entrance on King Street.  Get your parking ticket validated once you're inside.

I hope to see everyone there!

Thanks,Ben

I always learn something and this time was no exception. Showing the parent folder helped me migrate to a new hard drive today. I didn't know that working HDR images in 32 bit increases stop range from 5 to 10. Selecting the sky through the tree leaves by increasing the brush size to "enormous" when masking with the Adjustment Brush with Auto Mask enabled was another "aha" moment! Thanks Ben.

I'm helping a friend transfer images & LR Catalog to a new computer. I have to go through each assign. image folder and link it to the catalog, very time consuming. Looking for faster way and better understanding of how to set up files/folders.

Just bought a new iMac. What's the best way to move Lightroom with settings, photos, etc.? Also, I still struggle with folder management. I don't understand how Lightroom creates folders, and how I can override the defaults.

Adobe meeting is only 0.5 mile walk along Townsend from the CalTrain station. Very convenient for those of us who try not to drive into SF and get frustrated with the parking.

Any chance future meetups will be in San Jose? We like pizza too.

I'd love a presentation on skies. How do I darken skies while leaving the rest of the picture as is? How do I select for sky only through tree branches and leaves? How do I use the gradient tool with shifting the color or everything that touches the sky? How do I drop any sky picture into the background of a picture with a dull sky? What do I do with the sky is completely blown out? How to a clean up a noisy sky exposure?

Go to HSL panel, select Luminance, use the Targeted Adjustment Tool, click the blue sky, and drag down

Maybe you can talk about LR upgrade process. Do we always have to upgrade CR after upgrading LR? Is it better to reinstall from Creative Cloud rather than upgrading from web?

I'm a relatively new convert to LightRoom. I have 97,000 photos and finding a specific photo with no keywords is a nightmare. It would be good to talk about organizing a library that has been imported and how best to organize moving forward.

    Woot! This looks like fun.
