Novela by Anita Loos: "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" (discussion and drinks)!

  • July 20, 2014 · 5:00 PM

Join us as we celebrate the summer heat by reading Anita Loos' comic novela "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes"! Written and set in the Jazz age, Loos' work was written as a lighthearted look at relationships between men and women, as told through a series of journal entries by the fair-haired protagonist.

We tend to have some pretty heavy selections, so a little comedy is a great change of pace! Feel free to bring your insights from the movie of the same name, if you're feeling like doing some comparison and contrast...

Here's the course that yielded the interesting ideas about money: Pretty cool that a fiction club can have an interlude like that!

And here's the short story that, the more I think about it, is sort of an abstract of the thesis we discussed, that the 'end' of the novela was Lorelei seizing upon the chance to stop time: http://en.wikipedia.o... (the text is available online too)
