I'm teaching an AIARE Level 1 avalanche class in Lassen National Park on MLK Weekend, January 19, 20 and 21. The class is being offered through the Outdoor Adventure Club, (www.OutdoorAdventureClub.com)
The class is three days long, and prepares you to be an active participant on backcountry tours. No avalanche or backcountry experience is required. You will need to be able to travel through the backcountry, either on skis, snow shoes or split boards. You do not need to be an expert skier/boarder to take the class.
The class is a mixture of classroom and field education. The third day of the class is a backcountry tour. Where we go, what we ride/ski/snow shoe on will depend on the experience, skills and objectives of everyone in the group. All skill levels are welcome!
Upon completion of the class you will receive a certificate, and your name will be entered in AIARE's database of course participants.
More information about the class can be found here: http://OutdoorAdventureClub.com/trips/backcountry/avalanche-level1.html
Anyone from the Meetup who RSVP's here and registers on the Outdoor Adventure Club site can pay the discounted OAC member rate for the class.
Accommodations during the class are available at the Outdoor Adventure Club ski house in Mineral, just outside the park, for $100 total, for Friday, Sat, and Sun nights. There is also a motel, the Mineral Lodge, nearby. I believe they rent rooms starting at $85/night.
Split boards and avalanche gear can also be rented for the class from the Outdoor Adventure Club.
Let me know if you have any questions about the class. Happy to answer them.
