Mapping party to survey OSM/Centerline street name mismatches in Berkeley

Matching up street segments in OSM with Berkeley City Centerline data and crosschecking names has revealed a couple hundred street name errors (some in OSM, others in the City data.) See http://names.mhaprojects.com for a map of the remaining unresolved name mismatches.

As OSM data is increasingly being used for routing applications, correct street names are becoming very important.

Let's get together and field-survey these mismatches!

Michael: I just visited your site and all of the Emeryville topoi we visited are still red. What's up?

But as of this morning (Monday) at least the streets we surveyed in the Emeryville Marina are no longer red. :) Please let me know if you end up surveying some of the Berkeley Hills mismatches. :)

Michael, I took a look at the names.mhaprojects map, at some of the streets that are red there. I looked at McKinley, Jefferson, West, Acton Crescent, Sojourner Truth Court .. aside from some very minor issues (e.g. Acton Circle needed its culdesac), all of the names seem entirely correct in OSM. Of those "hundreds of street name errors", are any in OSM?

I'll add a layer to the names map showing the OSM corrections that have been made! But unfortunately don't have time to do it today.

I'm volunteering as an UCB alum to interview student scholarships from 10-12, but will be able to come by after. I use mytracker on my android smart phone, and can bring my new MacBook air. or not.

Sounds great Jeanny. I realize I didn't say what 'Go Map!!' does: it is a OpenStreetMap editing app. I don't know what is available for this on the android platform? We will be adjusting OSM 'tags' on the street segments related to naming. Alternately you can take notes and do the editing later on your computer.

Also, I will bring my laptop. More laptops might be handy (but not essential) for a possible edit session back at Au Coquelet after the field work.

    A few details:

    1. Let's gather in the front part of the BACK ROOM of Au Coquelet (at 1pm.) Please try and be punctual, as we will be heading out 'into the field'

    2. Would be helpful to sign up for a (free) account at http://www.openstreetmap.org before hand.

    3. If you have an iPhone, would be very helpful to download Bryce Cogswell's 'Go Map!!' app:
    https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/go-map!!/id592990211?mt=8

Look forward to seeing you all on Saturday!
