Pinnacles National Monument Hike and Mapping Party

GPS units available for loan, along with instructions for use.

What's a mapping party?

6 miles and 1300 elevation gain. Bring lunch, liquids, boots, and rain gear. Trekking poles are optional. We will be hiking up to the Bear Gulch Reservoir and through the High Peaks. Flashlights and waterproof boots are needed in the cave. There will be alternate routes for those who do not want to go through the cave or peaks. Bring cash for a snack or dinner stop in San Juan Bautista after the hike. Watch this space for optional mapping party details. Two car pool locations: 8:30 AM at Los Gatos Municipal Parking Lot (Highway 9 between University Ave & Santa Cruz Ave, behind Chase bank). Or at 9am at the McDonalds parking lot in the Gilroy Outlets.

Co-listed Sierra Club, Loma Prieta Chapter, Guadalupe Regional Group.

No post-hike data transfer and uploading because of the after hike dinner.  If interested, give me at[masked] or e-mail me and I will try to arrange something for 1-29.

Good company and adventure through the caves and along the cliffs. Takers for all six GPS loaner units.

What a fun event - Shawn & Linda rock! - they are both experienced guides with an innate passion for hiking & helping others. This was my first time back in many years - I will definitively do more hikes in the future & recommend Shawn, Linda & The Sierra Club!

For those of you driving directly to the park: From the San Francisco Bay Area to the East Entrance: Take Hwy 101 south through the city of Gilroy to Hwy 25 south. On Hwy 25, go through the town of Hollister and continue about 30 miles to Hwy 146. Turn right on Hwy 146, then turn left into the Pinnacles Campground to check in at Pinnacles Visitor Center. From the campground, the Bear Gulch Area is 3.5 miles further into the park along Hwy 146.
