Hello Climbers!

It's our regular, indoor climbing/beer biweekly event!  We've been getting about 5 new people each time, now we're up to about 20 climbers per event.  If you've ever wanted to try rock climbing, this is an ideal chance to try it in a safe environment with experienced climbers.  Whether you can barely climb a ladder or you're flashing 5.13's there's something for everyone and we're very supportive of climbers at all levels - no one starts out climbing 5.11s.  This time we're meeting at 7pm, so we have a bit more climbing time.

If you are new to climbing, please do arrive at 7 so you can get a quick lesson on tying in correctly, etc.  If you're not a member of Mission Cliffs, it's $20 for a day pass (or $100 for a 1 month pass) plus $5 for shoe/harness rentals.  After meeting inside we'll show folks how to tie in and belay before we begin our climbing.  If your not a regular member you'll have to get a temporary belay card (it's not hard, takes about 20 minutes total).  I will be there to show you the ropes (ok, really bad pun, even by my standards).

I've found that Friday night the gym is not very crowded and has a bit more of a relaxed atmosphere.  Don't worry if you're new to climbing, all climbers were at some point and my experience has been that climbers will go out of their way to give you tips, be helpful, etc.  I'm pretty new to climbing myself, and have been pretty amazed how quickly my progress has been given that I used to be terrified to climb a 6 foot ladder..lol.  I'll be there to give you basic tips in terms of proper holds, footwork, and other basic techniques.

For those that are already climbers, hope we can get a good group to really push ourselves and cheer each other on.

After climbing (around 10ish) for those that want we'll find somewhere nearby to grab a bite to eat and have a victory beer.

Hit me up with any questions, otherwise I'll see you Friday night!  Do not send me funds, you'll pay for your own day pass Friday night in person.

I got caught in terrible traffic on the way home and won't be able to make it there by 7...since I'm a climbing newbie I don't want to miss out on the lesson. I hope I can join you next time.

Sorry changed my mind about coming. Parking looks too dicey and safety of walking from BART to the gym concerns me.

of course, whatever is best for you, but I've NEVER had to park more than 1 block away, and I've probably been there 50 times

My camping trip for this weekend was cancelled due to the fire near Yosemite so I thought I would check out Rock Climbing night with this group. I used to climb but haven't in years so I'll be a bit rusty. I suspect my goal will be to start with a 5.5 and see if I can work up to a 5.7. I hope there will be someone there with my skill level. Will be there by 7 pm to be retrained! Am I allowed to use my own harness and shoes?

Yes, you can use your own gears, and they are not inspecting your gears. It's your call on how much you trust your gears :)

Does the gym have a parking lot or am I going to be struggling to find parking? I'm coming from the south bay.

Thought it would be fun if everyone left a note stating their climbing goal for next Friday. I'll start - I want to nail that double roof 5.10c and get at least 1/2 way up the 5.11a problem named "Miami".

    What's your goal?!

I hope to try to get to the top of one of the routes on the shorter walls upstairs. It can be done, and it's been done before. Just need to keep working on my upper body strength!

If you're new, please arrive @ 7pm. I'm most willing to help new folks, but I do want to be done with training by 7:45 so we can all get in some good climbing time

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
