This will be the ultimate in easy and beautiful backpacking with no drive time whatsoever - an overnight trip to Angel Island!! We'll be doing a group backpacking trip Sat, Nov 24th in the beautiful SF bay. Our site is limited to 20 campers, though others are certainly welcome to join us during the day. I'm putting this up far in advance as it's so popular I had to reserve our group site about 4-5 months in advance. This event is Sat, Mar 8, 2014.
Space is guaranteed to fill up on this extremely quickly, most likely within 24 hours tops, so please rsvp right away if you'd like to do this. We did this event last year and it was AWESOME. We have a group site with a private beach and an excellent campsite area, views to die for (Kayak site, same as last year)! As this trip will sell out almost immediately, no guests are allowed on this trip. All attendees must be members. In order to reserve your spot please wire $5 to my PayPal account - my account ID is: [masked]. Your spot will not be held until payment is received.
This will be a very easy trip, some people even bring wheeled carts to carry items that would usually be a luxury for backpacking. There's no real challenge here - to hike around the whole island is just 5.7 miles and the highest point on the island is 300 feet. Sat night we'll do a night hike to the peak of the island for killer city views over the water. The goal here is FUN and lots of it! Count on a ultra-gourmet camp dinner Saturday for sure, plenty of libations, and general camp craziness. Sunday we're going to do a full-on, gourmet brunch. Yup, that means french toast, pancakes, eggs, bacon, bagels & lox, fresh fruit, mimosas, the whole bit! We'll have a food and gear sign up sheet as we get closer, but everyone is expected to contribute.
We'll take the ferry over on Saturday, early (by 10am at the latest), and people can return Sunday whenever they'd like. Once again, for those that don't make the 20 person rsvp for the overnight list, you can always come join us for a day hike around the island Saturday. Saturday's hike is just under 6 miles and very easy as far as hikes go.
One item - as space is extremely limited, it would be a HUGE bummer if anyone pulled a no-show. If you're not sure you can attend, please don't rsvp. If plans change and you were going to attend and have to cancel, please "unrsvp" asap, even if you've paid (someone else would gladly pay for the spot). 2 no-shows on overnight events where space is limited equals no more overnight trips. 3 no-shows means removal from the group. Thanks for understanding.
Fun Factor: Off the charts!
Cost: $5 per person, plus ferry fees
