Sat., 4/19/14: Wine bottling at La Nebbia Winery

We had such a great time at our first Bottle & Cork Day at La Nebbia that I'd like to do it again!

La Nebbia is offering another "red wine" for us to bottle but will not announce the varietal until a couple of weeks prior to the event.

I am unable to schedule this meetup any earlier because I have a Ladies Club golf tournament and won't be finished until about 12:30 p.m.

For those who are unfamiliar with Bottle & Cork Day, what happens is La Nebbia purchases left-over premium wine for a low price from undisclosed wineries that need to make room for the production and storage of the next vintage.

If you bring your own clean wine bottle, the wine is only $5.50. If you don't have your own clean wine bottles, you can buy them at the winery for $1.50 (so the wine costs you $7/bottle).

Here's a link to the winery.  It has a lot of great info, including the dates of future Bottle & Cork dates and how to clean your wine bottles:

If you look at the meetup description above, you'll see that I added an image of a wine label.

The gorgeous label was created by John, and he'll give each of us a couple of these labels to put on our wine bottles.

    Thank you, John!

I'll email tomorrow (Friday) night my phone # and info about what I'll be wearing so that it'll be easy to recognize me.

I'm guessing that at 2:00 p.m., the winery won't be so busy, so it'll be easy to find each other. This is a very small winery.

Just like the last time, I'll print some generic home-made labels with the info about what we're bottling. I'll have enough labels for each of you, I hope.

LaNebbia does put labels on the bottles, but they only say something like "Red Table Wine" and the volunteers schmeer so much glue that the bottles end up looking very messy.

Does anyone need clean, empty wine bottles? I have a few extras. I'm bringing a few for MJ . . . anyone else?

Later this week, I will email you guys my phone # and info about what I'll be wearing so that you can easily recognize me.

La Nebbia Winery is a very small place, so it will not be difficult to find us.

Ok, La Nebbia just announced what we will be bottling:

2011 Merlot from Fair Play Wineries (El Dorado)

Aged in French oak, this Merlot has mocha on the nose and a smooth cherry finish.

There will be a food truck there, so if we want munchies to go with our wine, the truck is a great option.

This is the first time that I know of that La Nebbia is disclosing where they are getting their wine. They say "Fair Play," so when I searched them on the web, it turns out that Fair Play may be a wine group which represents 23 different wineres. Therefore, we don't know which of the 23 the wine we are bottling comes from. But I'm sure it'll be really great, as usual.

We just grab a coffee and speak French. Some people have been coming every week for months... it creates a kind of warmth to the group.
