Join us for an outstanding workshop in wonderful Yosemite National Park during a very limited time when the waterfalls are at their peak and produce the unique Moonbow effect.

Here is a link to many images of Yosemite Moonbows:

Moonbows or Lunar Rainbows are created by the light of the full moon for only a very short period of time in the year. They are produced by the combination of spring waterfall mist and bright moonlight.

There are only four places in the world where this rare phenomenon is visible:  Yosemite Falls; Cumberland Falls, Kentucky; Victoria Falls, Africa and Waimea Falls, Hawaii.

In addition to the Moonbows and the Full Moon, we will visit and photograph many of Yosemite’s classic views of El Capitan, Half Dome, Yosemite and Bridal Veil Falls as well as Wildflowers, Reflections,Macros and Abstracts in various locations.

Dates: Friday, April 26 to Sunday, April 28

Cost: $195.00 (not including hotel rooms, travel or park entry).

Instructor: Award Winning Master Photographer Seraphina Landgrebe

You can see more of her images on her website: http://www.seraphina.com

Schedule: During the morning and afternoon, we will be doing a variety of photography assignments including Sun rainbows, water reflections, waterfalls, wildflowers, macros and abstracts. There will be breaks for lunch and an early dinner. There will be two late night photography sessions from 7:00 pm to midnight where we will do the Full Moon and Moonbow images. You will receive instructions on careful planning, preparation and exposure information before photographing each day.

Hotel: We have a special group rate at the hotel which will save you some money on your room, however, they rooms will only be held for a limited amount of time.  If you are interested in attending this workshop, I suggest that you reserve your space as soon as possible so that you can reserve your rooms.  Our rate is much lower than the standard rate.

Past Workshops: You can see photos from the other Yosemite trips we have done by clicking on the "Photos" link at the top of the home page and opening the photo galleries for the other Yosemite workshops.

Hope you can join Seraphina and I for this very special workshop.

I had a lot of fun! I learned a lot, and having a whole group of photographers was good motivation!

It was a fun road trip with Ed, Francis and Loi. English spoken in the front and Vietnamese in the back! My first time to car pool and would do it again. Saved us on gas and liked the conversation about European History from Ed especially Russia, Rome, Balkans, Serbia and the Turkish area, was nice since I have Turkish relatives. Oh about the photography, my face book friends thought it was the best album I had posted. Like the camaraderie and info sharing amongst the group at times when we were separated. Since there was spotty communications. Overall Seraphina and Ed made shooting fun, informative and varied. I liked the cheat sheet for starting in moonlight photography and will use it for my personal shots. I will make sure I have enough water, food ,rain gear and exercise for the next trip.
Have fun everyone in the group and hope to see you all next time!

Are you planning another event similar to this for the month of May? A colleague of mine is interested in going. :)

This event was great! I learned a lot about Yosemite, moonbows, night photography, ect. Seraphina was full of knowledge and positive energy. Our organizer, Edward Woods, reminded me of the importance of noticing the details, amongst all the beautiful landscapes. Also, the group consisted of first-class photographers. Excellent event!

I was hoping to see some moon shots too....not a huge fan of turning night into day, but if you are going to do it, this is the way to do it! Nice job! How long were the exposures? Single or multiple shots overlaid? Thanks.

I received the e-mail from Edwards this morning and noticed he mentioned to bring a flash light or a head light.
Try to get a red filter for your flash light or get a head light with red LED. I got one from Walmart for $15.00 RAYOVAC 6LED Sportsman.
Red light is better for your eyes at nigh and will not disturb others if doing long exposures. Hope this helps.

    April 20, 2013

    • Edward Woods

REI also has a big selection of headbands - both red and white.

      April 21, 2013

    • Salvador Cortes

Yeah, I have used it before and it does not disturb other photographers near you when doing long exposures and your diaphragm is open. REI has several models, more expensive though.

    Hello

Is there a list of particular items we need to bring?
    (type of lenses, additional equipment/filters)

    March 28, 2013

    • Edward Woods

We recommend a wide angle lens for landscapes, telephoto for wildlife and a macro for closeups. For filters you should bring a polarizer and a neutral density if you have one.

This is %50 off -- I don't think you can get a better rate for group discount. I just bought it and made a reservation with Yosemite View Lodge today.

Seraphina already confirmed Yosemite View Lodge:

"Dear Francis, I just found out that there are rooms available at the Yosemite Lodge.
So get your Groupon and reserve room for April 26th and 27th. We did know about this Groupon; thank you for finding a great deal. Look forward to photo workshop. Seraphina"

We have reserved a group of rooms at the Yosemite View Lodge in El Portal, however, we are waiting for the approval and discount code. Please do not reserve your room now because you will pay a much higher rate. When we get the code, it will be sent to everyone who has registered for this workshop.

If anyone wants to share a room to save money, we will help with that.

Just curious what the hotel group rates are and which hotel we will be staying at for this workshop. :)

    March 5, 2013

    • May

Interested in going, need to make sure the budget works though. Also, do you have a recommended set of lenses and/or equipment to bring? Do we need lenses that are at f/2.8 or is a f/5.6 okay? Would like to rent the right gear before committing. How much hiking will be involved in the daytime? Hope you don't mind all these questions, it helps make planning easier. :)
