Instructor: Tim Baskerville
Instructor Biography: Tim is an extremely experienced, award winning photographer who has specialized in night photography for over 25 years. He is the director of "The Nocturnes" Night Photography Group and he will lead participants on a closely supervised nocturnal adventure exploring the historic Mare Island Naval Shipyard. Tim has done a very large number of night photography presentations, classes and workshops so this will be an outstanding event.
Who Should Attend: This workshop is for people who would like to learn how to select proper exposures (either digital or film) after dark both by the light of the moon and by existing artificial light.
Upon completing this workshop, you should be comfortable photographing in a wide variety of lighting situations - from relatively short exposures illuminated by ambient or industrial light and street light - to longer exposures of 10 minutes or more. Emphasis will be on evaluating existing lighting situations and exposing accordingly.
One prerequisite is that everyone know how to use their specific camera with full manual control via remote and have a good grasp of the basic concepts of photography.
• Lighting and exposure situations.
• Digital setup for Night Photography.
• Understanding "ranges of light" in Night Photography.
• Light Painting, Moon Exposures and Urban Settings.
• Identifying various light sources and color temperatures.
• Evaluating exposures at night using the Histogram.
Schedule: We will begin with a 2 hour orientation and lecture by Tim Baskerville at the office of his company, The Nocturnes, which is located in Mare Island. Tim will cover the many aspects of night photography, answer questions and provide personal help as required. Following the lecture, Tim will lead us to a variety of unique locations. Since Tim has had his office in Mare Island for many years and conducted classes, workshops and shoots in the area, he knows the best places to go to get those outstanding images.
Class Limit: 15 photographers
This will be an outstanding workshop from an extremely experience night photographer.
