America's Cup - Fleet Parade of 40 Boats Including the 72 Foot Boats

AMERICA'S CUP - FLEET PARADE OF 40 BOATS

This is a great opportunity to see the amazing 72 foot America's Cup boats up close at a Fleet Parade of more than 40 boats including the big ones.

Date: Friday, July 5

Time: 11:00 am. The parade starts at Pier 14 and ends at the host club - the Golden Gate Yacht club.  Even on a weekday, I expect that there will be a very large crowd so I am planning to arrive early to get a parking space and viewing spot. The boats are tentatively scheduled to arrive at the Yacht club at 11:45 am.

This is a Free, Hosted Meetup event.

Here is a map of the area:

The meeting point is in front of the Golden Gate Yacht club.  As always, the key is to arrive early.  Figure number 1 is the road leading in which will be closed for this event.  Best parking is at "Park 2" but again, go early to get a spot.  There is a cafe there where you can buy a snack or drink.

Number 3 is the parking area in back of the Palace of Fine Arts.  Now that the Exploratorium has moved out, there should be some parking available there.

Be careful about street parking since there is a 2 hour time limit.

I arrived late because I had to drive from south san jose. Clicked a few snaps but was disappointed not to see the big boats..Hopefully would like to catch up with the group members next time around.

It was fun to see the fire boat spraying water, but very disappointing that the sail boats couldn't participate. It was too windy for them.

Although the parade was held, they did not include the large boats which was why we came. Too bad. Hope the rest of the events are run better. Thanks to everyone who did come. I enjoyed talking with you.

I attended many America's cup races last year and never had a problem taking photos and never heard of anyone having a problem. Canon even had some of those super expensive, big lenses with tripods available for people to use with no problems. Can't imagine anyone having a problem at the parade.

I went to Pier 27 & 29 today to photograph the ships. They would not let me into the pier with my camera. I was told that I was a professional photographer because my lens was larger than the camera body. I was told that I could take the lens off and leave it at the entrance. I went to a different entrance and just walked in & shot over 300 photos. The reasoning for this was that I might take photos of the ships and sell them. I asked where I could sell them. :-) You may or may not encounter this rule at the parade of boats. Just hide you large lenses.

Parking in San Francisco is always a problem. Should not be as bad on a week day. I will be adding parking suggestions tonight.

I'll try to make it, be coming back from work that morning

I'll try, but I'm concerned about parking. If I can't find reasonable parking, I'll have to return home.

I'd love to do this, but not while the BART strike has paralyzed traffic into SF from the East Bay. Hope to make the next one.
