THIS IS IT - POSSIBLY YOUR LAST CHANCE TO PHOTOGRAPH THE AMERICA'S CUP BOATS
Scroll down for details
After a long season of races, we are down to the final races that will determine the winner of the America's Cup. At this point, the New Zealand team has a big lead and they seem to have a faster boat so there is a very good chance that they will win the cup. The result will be that the next America's cup races will be held in New Zealand so this may be your last chance to photograph these amazing boats.
Date: Sunday, September 15
Time: Two races are scheduled with the first race starting at 1:15 pm. In order to get a parking space in the Crissy Field lot, I suggest that you plan to arrive early.
Meetup Location: For the races, we will be meeting in the area close to the Golden Gate Yacht club (marked with an X on the map below) which is close to where the races start. In general this is where the competition is especially intense because the boat that is in front at the start will frequently win the race.
Parking: The closest parking is the lot in Crissy Field and it is free to park there. If you arrive early enough, you should be able to find a spot. I am planning to arrive at 10:00 am and, if the crowd is not too heavy, have a coffee and snack at the cafe.
Cost: This is a free event.
Equipment suggestions: Bring the longest telephoto lens that you have. All of the images above were taken by me from shore at the same location where we will be meeting. I used an[masked]mm lens and most shots were taken at 400 mm, however, I am shooting with a full frame camera so if you are using a DX camera than a 300mm lens would give you about the same amount of zoom.
Please RSVP: If you are planning to attend, please enter a Yes RSVP so I know how many people to expect. One of the big problems we have are people who RSVP and than don't show up. If your plans change, be sure to change your RSVP to No.
