About This workshop: It will feature intensive photographic training and shooting in which Seraphina will work personally with each attending photographer to be sure that everyone is able to create many memorable images.
Seraphina is a long time resident of Santa Cruz and has spent a lot of time exploring the spectacular Big Sur coast and she will share many of her favorite and very special shooting locations with us.
On Saturday morning, we will begin our adventure to Big Sur where we will experience dramatic meetings of land and sea including beautiful beaches and coastal rock formations, special locations where California Condors and other wildlife are frequently seen, redwoods and wildflowers and much more. There will be a moon shoot on Saturday night.
We will be visiting Seraphina's secret places for shooting the extremely rare California Condors.
What Seraphina Will Teach You: This workshop will help beginning and intermediate photographers create wonderful images of the beautifully unique Big Sur coast. The workshop focuses on producing striking and powerful compositions, as well as telling a story with your photos. There is also a strong emphasis on understanding your camera's settings in order to break into new creative realms. We will discuss:
• Transforming your artistic vision into memorable photographs
• Camera Settings: Aperture, Shutter Speed, and ISO - their relationship to one another and how to change them for exposure control
• Metering and getting a correct exposure
• Histograms, how to read them, and how to fine-tune exposure
• Creative depth-of-field effects using aperture control
• Capturing motion within your photos using different shutter speeds
• Timing waves to capture crashing spray, water streaks, and sandy reflections
• White balance and creative coloration
• Creating perspective, depth, and a sense of "being there" in your photos
• Creating powerful compositions with impact
• Composing to control your viewer's attention in your photos
• Compositional balance, tension, and visual flow
• How to use filters to capture dramatic light or create long-exposure effects
Seraphina is a wonderful teacher and you will really learn a lot during this workshop.
Car Pooling: We will be setting up a car pool location in San Jose for Saturday morning. If you are interested in car pooling, when you make your reservation, be sure to tell us if you can drive or if you would like to be a passenger. (The number of passenger spaces available will depend on the number of people who can drive).
Room Share: For those who want to share a room, we will try to put people together for that.
Seraphina is the primary instructor but Greg and I will be assistant instructors so there will be plenty of help for everyone who needs it.
Workshop fee: $195.00 (not including travel, meals, park entry fees or hotel rooms).
Seraphina and I hope that you join us for this remarkable workshop.
