  • Location To Be Announced

Date: Saturday, August 20

Time: 7:00 pm to 10:00 pm

Location:  We will be meeting in Chinatown in San Francisco.

Bring your walking shoes and camera to Chinatown and Frederic Larson will show you some hidden secrets of this unique district of San Francisco especially exotic at night.

We’ll tour the back alleys of Chinatown which are located off the

beaten path and capture interesting portraits of the largest population of Chinese Americans in the Northern Hemisphere.

Fred will teach you how to take images that tell a story in the documentary style of photography.

You'll be taught a formula used by National Geographic photographers in the use of light and style.

This is a great opportunity to explore this area and to create unique photographic images.

The workshop concentration will be on environmental portraits capturing light during the magic hour (of twilight) as well as longer nighttime exposures.

You will be shooting primarily with available light, traveling light and working fast through selected areas seen only by locals.

Your instructor, Frederic Larson, for over 25 years, was one of the top staff photographers for the San Francisco Chronicle.  During that time, he earned many awards as well as the admiration of many readers for his fabulous images of the Bay Area.

Fred has asked that we limit the attendance to no more than 12 photographers so that he is able to work personally with each photographer.

You can see some of his images in the link below:

Workshop fee: $98.00

Limited to 12 photographers.

This will be a lot of fun and we hope you can attend.

Great job by Fred who told everyone that he did not want to see any stock images of Chinatown but wanted everyone to "think different" and come up with new ways of seeing. He also showed a lot of really interesting techniques for us to try.
I saw a lot of great images from many of the photographers so I think Fred's inspiration was a success.

James: I checked my email records and you were sent an email with the location and all of the information on August 15 which is 5 days before the workshop. The email address we have on file for you is correct so I have no idea why you did not receive the email. I wish that you contacted us sooner about not getting the information - I was home until 5 pm before leaving for the workshop.
