SECOND HORSETAIL FALLS AND MORE WORKSHOP IN YOSEMITE ON FEBRUARY 15, 2013

SECOND HORSETAIL FALLS AND MORE IN YOSEMITE - A WORKSHOP WITH AWARD WINNING MASTER PHOTOGRAPHER SERAPHINA

Every year in the month of February, a unique visual event occurs when the setting sun lights up the East side of El Capitan. When conditions are right, Horsetail falls reflects a bright orange to red color. This occurance was made famous by photographer Galen Rowell in his amazing photograph.

You can see more photos of this event by doing a Google search for "Horsetail Fall in Yosemite".

In addition to Horsetail Falls, Seraphina will be taking us to photograph several other waterfalls and landscape locations including Yosemite Falls - the highest waterfall in North America.

• Learn how to photograph Winter Snow Scenes.

• Find the right Aperture, Shutter Speed and ISO settings to create special effects.

• Use slow shutter speeds and ISO settings to create dreamy images.

• Learn techniques to use to correctly meter to get proper exposure.

• Discover compositional elements that will add impact to your work.

• Work with filters to enhance your images.

• Benefit from working with visionary photographer and instructor Seraphina to develop your artistic vision.

This workshop will include 3 late afternoon opportunities in which to capture the Horsetail event - Sunsets on Friday, February 15, Saturday, February 16 and Sunday, February 17. If you are not able to leave at 7:30 am on Friday, you can drive up on Friday night or early Saturday morning and join the group at the hotel.

In order to conduct these workshops, we have to purchase a permit to hold them in the park and that permit limits the number of photographers in the group to a maximum of 15 which includes the instructor and organizer so we will be limited to a maximum of 14 participants.

Cost: The price for the workshop is $195.00 not including your motel room, transportation or park entry. We will be organizing car pools to save on gas.

Please Note: When you enter your RSVP for this event, you will be asked to answer a few questions. It is very important that you send the answers since we need this information to be able to run this workshop.

Weather Conditions: The current forecast is for Sunny on Friday, Partly Cloudy on Saturday and Sunny on Sunday. High temperatures of mid 40's during the day and a low of 12 degrees at night. We will do the Horsetail Falls shoot until Sunset and will not be doing any organized events at night.

Workshop Schedule: On Friday, we are leaving early so that we arrive in Yosemite in time to do the first Horsetail Falls shoot. On Saturday morning and early afternoon, we will be shooting some of the other famous Yosemite waterfalls. On Sunday, we will again visit some waterfalls as well as other beautiful locations before completing the trip with a final Horsetail Falls shoot. It should be another amazing trip.

Although there was not much water, we did get good color on all 3 days. Weather was very warm - almost like summer which was very pleasant.

So, did anyone get any "fire" photos? I didn't :-( Great sunset, but no "lava" flowing for me.

    February 17, 2013

    • Edward W.

Hi Laura - what you call the lava effect is caused by the reflection of the sun on the water flowing ever the face. This year, there was not much snow during the last month so there was very little water flowing which is why the full effect did not occur this year.

Opps, should have written my reply here.

That's what I had heard, but wondered if anyone got the right angle from the South side area....but I guess not. See you up there next year :-)

I guess we all got the itinerary. Don't know whether its a good idea, but would anybody be interested in venturing out in the cold of the night ?

Vinay: Please bring up this option during the meeting with Seraphina on Friday. Be aware, it is very cold at night - 10 degrees or lower. By the way, the photo in the link is a heavy photoshop image - the star effect is not real.

I will miss the opportunity to learn lot of new things and look forward for forthcoming workshop.

Hi Ed, I do not seem to have received any email for suggested camera gear. Can I please get one?

    February 3, 2013

    • Edward W.

      Sent.

      February 6, 2013

    • Vinay T

That's strange .. I still did not get it !

      February 6, 2013

  • Frank K.

Hi Ed, do we need to do a lot of hiking in the valley or mostly travel by car?

    February 2, 2013

    • Edward W.

No, there will not be a lot of hiking. There will be some walking to the shooting sites but not that much.

      February 3, 2013

  • Zee V.

Hi Edward! Since this is a 3 day event, what are the other activities/venues during the daytime for this workshop aside from the sunsets of horsetail. Will there be some workshops for the daytime/sunrise?

    January 5, 2013

    • Edward W.

Sean: I have update the workshop description with more information. If you have any more questions, send me direct email.

  • Mary P

Hi, appreciate if you can recommend a hotel/motel to stay. Possible to get a discounted group rates for accommodation? thx

    November 17, 2012

    • Edward W.

We have a group rate in the information email that I sent out.

      January 5, 2013

  • Bob N.

Sorry Ed. I am unable to attend at this point.

    December 26, 2012

  • Edward W.

No - not a mistaken new entry. Since we are limited to a maximum of 15 people in one group when we are in Yosemite, we needed to have 2 workshops but they are the same. You are confirmed for the first so do not reserve for this one.

    November 21, 2012

  • Sergey K.

This looks like a second instance of the earlier announced workshop. I did sign up for the other one. I guess this is a mistaken new entry?

    November 21, 2012

  • Edward W.

We have arranged for a group rate at a motel.

I will be sending an email with details soon.

I am going to surgery end of the month and I will be taking time off from work to recover. so most likely on that 3 days I won't feel good.

    Hello Ed
