Intro to Fashion Lighting workshop and photo shoot

  • This location is shown only to members

This workshop takes over where Intro to Lighting left off; but, with more shoot time. This event is for beginner to intermediate skilled photographers.

The workshop will cover some fashion and glamour lighting techniques for the group members that are not highly experienced with the use and setup of studio lighting. The class will be keep small; so, each attendee will get some hands on and shoot time.

First, there will be an short fashion lighting discussion. Later we'll have an equipment briefing and then take a short break where some refreshments will be available. We'll then round it up with the lighting set up and the photo shoot.

The only equipment you'll need for this event is a working camera that can be set to manual and has a hot shoe. If you already have your own pocket wizard please bring it if not you can use the studios . If you don't own a camera please contact me off site.

Thanks everyone and George for the fun photoshoot. You guys made it a lot easier to model for and I love how those photos turned out! Also appreciated how organized the workshop and photoshoot was and how relaxing the atmosphere was during the entire time I was there. Bonus points to the makeup artist who did a fantastic job on my face!!

Hi George, How is this workshop going to be different from the one I attended last weekend?

    March 28, 2013

    • George

Hi Love, Great question and I don't know that I can do it justice in this comments section. The differences between portrait lighting and fashion lighting can be subtle. That is part of what the lecture is about. The lecture is also much shorter and we'll only touch on specular vs diffused light. I will go back through how to disect professionals work. There is also a bit more shoot time than the one you attened. The first set up for this shoot will be a full high key theme shoot. The difference between setting that and what was set up at the shoot you attended with Boobi is that all the background will be completly blown out and the model will be wearing white, off white or very light almost white tones; so, everthing added together is lighter than middle gray. We might go through modifiers again and maybe have the attendees switch them out; so, they start feeling more comfortable with the gear. Oh and the obvious difference is the model is not the same one.

I am willing to attend the workshop class.. But im a beginner.. I think i need a mentor

    March 19, 2013

    • George

Hi Josefina, Unfotuanately this workshop is full. With that said, we will run another or similar one and it will show up soon. These workshops are setup for beginners and intermidate photogs; so, don't worry about that. Shoots for only advanced photogs will spell that out in the meet up page.

I'll be bringing my wife along. She wont be shooting (just watching from the sidelines)

    March 8, 2013

    • George

Additional guest(s) are not allowed in the studio shoots; as, then everyone would want to bring someone. We have limited space. Also, if I did they'd have to pay as it would be unfair to the others.

    Rohit,
I've sent you an email about this workshop. Please respond.

  • Rohit

Hi George, I am new to this meetup so can you please tell how long will be the photoshoot and approximately how much time does each photographer get for shooting. Thanks.

    February 5, 2013

    • George

      Hi Rohit,
First, we do a brief on fashion lighting which will last about 30 to 40 minutes. Then we cover some of the lighting modifiers and the strobes. Next we take a short break and then we do the photo shoot for about an hour and a half. My plans are to have a clothing change out half way through. Therefore, it’s hard to say exactly how much time each attended will shoot; but, the last workshop ran over by at least a half hour and I don’t think anyone felt pressured to leave. This workshop is surely a value at the price and setup for beginner to intermediate photogs. Please join us and try it.
