Lets share our sewing resources!

How can we best share our spaces, enthusiasm, and projects? Who has studio with space for how many machines and people? Who has a project that just needs a little enthusiasm? Who has enthusiasm to share? What happens if someone needs helpers for a beautiful project? Lets find out what we have to offer!

Is this a novice friendly meetup? I've never sew in my past.

The meetup was very enjoyable. Everyone had a different approach to sewing. Interesting people.

I may have the wrong idea, maybe this is not a meet up to do sewing, yet, maybe that comes later? I just wanted to offer my ideas for having a meet up for sewing and how we could possible get a good space in san francisco.

I believe there already is a date and location set for the next meet up for sewing and fabric swap. I could be wrong it's been a little while since I've gone to the bernal heights library but if I remember correctly the parking out there is not bad out there if your driving. Anyhow, I can't make it to the next meet up but look forward to one in SF. I would look into maybe securing a room at one of the neighborhood social clubs.

My mother lives at the Avalon on ocean ave in san francisco, most complexes have meeting rooms, but not the avalon on ocean. I was in another meet up group in which one of the members had a complex that had a meeting or conference room and it is a great idea if someone lives in one of those to use a conference room. The san francisco library is very hard to access, the parking is very expensive or it would necessary to lug sewing machines on muni or bart. Most other san francisco library locations are of the same nature. If there is any parking at all it is zoned or metered.

My house is only a one bedroom and so we can't meet at my house. I do have a lightweight machine that I can bring to a meet up however. It is important to remember to bring the foot petal and extensions cords, because you may have limited outlets. I have been to other sewing clubs and someone always forgets the foot petal or there is not enough outlets for everyone to plug in. Also good lighting is very important. Many space do not have adequate illumination for one to do their best work. I would love to enlarge my house at some point, but that could be many years away, so I could entertain people or have parties, which right now, I can't do.

Sorry I can't make it! If people ever decide to meet in SF the library is always an option. :)

If you set a date to meet in the library I would love to go, Sunday mornings work best for (except Mother's Day) me but if necessary I could try to work something out.

Would anyone be interested in meeting at my studio in Oakland? It's on MacArthur Blvd near Fruitvale Ave with a bus stop right at the front & plenty of free parking.

Oakland is a little to far for me right now, I could meet in San Franciscio at the library location.

I'm in the East Bay near North Berkeley BART station. I'll volunteer to take the leftovers from a fabric exchange to a non profit like East Bay Center for Creative Reuse.

I'm living in San Leandro, usually had a studio, but in transition right now. Grace, I would certainly be interested in fabric if your downsizing. I'm trying to re-start my craft/artist/textile, etc. career. San Francisco and the Peninsula is a bit much for me, but East Bay is great. I'm hoping at some point to have more space in the EB to do more networking, etc. I'm working on re/use clothing, scarves, hats etc. right now by cutting up and felting old sweaters by always using wool, angora, cashmere, etc. I basically have a degree in textiles/art/fine craft, and have always made art and clothing, paper, jewelry. Some of my metal jewelry I take embroidery, lace, etc. and print the textiles into soft metal using a rolling mill.

Sounds fun, I'd love to bring some of my stash that I'm not going to use in the hopes that it'll find a new home!

I would like to share my fabric with anyone who would like to come to my home and pick some up. I live in Emeryville. I'm in the process of downsizing my assortment of fabrics. It won't be for a couple of weeks until I separate what goes/what stays.

HI Grace. I live at the Emeryville Oakland border, and am interested in meeting to talk about fabric.

I manage the bernal heights branch library in SF and we have a decent size meeting room with 8 tables and lots of outlets. But not sure people can get themselves and their machines there easily. The room is free to book. (the room is also available during closed library hours) http://sfpl.org/index.php?pg=0100002201

I'd also love a fabric and/or pattern exchange.

Great idea! I live in bernal so could easily come by the library...

I think the library is a great place to meet. I could even bring some fabrics to give away or swap, I have a few remnants that would be great for quilts or dolls

I don't have space, but I'd love to collaborate with other sewists! I have been learning to sew over the last year or two. I have made numerous small projects (lots of handbags and some clothing alterations) but I've recently gotten into quilting.

I don't have space, but I have enthusiasm, encouragement and inspiration to add to the mix. And maybe a second machine. I primarily am interested in dressmaking, but art and traditional quilts are so inspiring! I could attend something in SF or on the Peninsula.

I have a large space in the building I live in. It's in SF on Potrero Hill. I want to start sewing again, but need encouragement & maybe some inspiration from others. I can help other people, too. I have design & craft skills and a machine waiting to be used.

I have a smallish studio near Emeryville, with a great Brother machine, and some clutter. I make soft sculpture, small toys and giant inflatable decorations. I'd love to collaborate on my or your project, if we find ways to do that.
