MLK Britex Shopping

They're open this upcoming Monday and I'm thinking about going as I've never been. It's a holiday so maybe some of you have the day off and would be interested in going? Let me know if you're interested!

Thanks to everyone who came! It was so great to meet all of you! I'm looking forward to the flea market (fingers crossed that the rain stops that day).

A great meetup shopping for fabric/notions! It was great hearing about the projects people were shopping for, and discovering all kinds of interesting fabrics within. Also enjoyed meeting people, and getting advice and tips from everyone present.

It was so great to meet some really lovely sewing enthusiasts and see their purchases. I hope I get to see the finished projects!

Christine: Meeting up at 10 in front of the store sounds good. I'll try to bring a meet-up sign or something. My only advice for someone driving is that parking can be expensive, so just beware! Another option is to drive to a BART station with lots of parking and BART in to Montgomery or Powell.

Katia: I'd love to meet up for some food afterwards if people are down.

    Can't wait!

Britex is a fabric store that has been around since 1952. It carries a lot of high end goods (wait till you see the wall of wool!) as well as some "standard" fabrics. I used to go there for the unusual stuff, something I couldn't find at New York Fabrics (when they existed) or outside of LA. Now I can find cottons at decent prices, as well as nice linens and trims. A few years ago they did building retrofitting and revamped their stock. They're only open M-Sat 10-6 but worth the trip!

Can someone post more details? Is this a shop/warehouse open all the time? I can't make it this weekend, but would like to go some other time if possible.

Looking forward to this! I'll be leaving San Jose around 8:30am in case of traffic, etc... I've never been to Britex before. Should we just meet in front at 10am? Can anyone that's been advise if there's a better location to meet? Unfortunately, I can't stay past noon as I have to be back in San Jose but I could meet for breakfast or coffee before if anyone's interested.

I'm not able to go but be sure to check out the trims on the top floor! They used to carry bulk zippers that were CHEAP so if you need zippers for anything make sure you know color and length. You can also get amazing trims that I haven't seen anywhere else outside of LA or New York. Prices can be steep but the inpsiration is priceless. Be sure to look through the remnants : )

I'm scared to see the prices, but I've never been there, so that would be interesting. Are we all meeting right there, or somewhere else for breakfast? Or lunch afterwards to chat some more?
