Why do you think it is important for kids to learn about new technologies?

Technology is everywhere. It's part of everything we do, and kids need to have an understanding of how it works. It will help them think critically and solve problems.

What is your experience either from the teacher/mentor or parent side of getting kids to code?

I've run a summer camp to teach kids to create their own video games for 9 years. I'm making to teach kids with no prior experience how to program. I've taught the intro classes as a TA and section leader at Stanford for 3 years.

What methods have you tried?

Karel is fantastic. We used it at Stanford, and we are using it at CodeHS. Multimedia Fusion is also a fantastic program for younger kids.

If you have skills that you would like to teach kids, what are they?

I'm a Stanford CS Grad working in SF on CodeHS. I'm passionate about CS education, and I love to ski and go to Stanford Football Games.
