Elijah Meeks - D3: A Community of Code, Practice, and Aspiration

This talk will consist of an exploration of two lenses on the D3 community: bl.ocksplorer & the D3 Meetup Group member list. Like any sample of a community, these are problematic and incomplete, but they allow us to look at how we're using D3, how we want to use D3, and where the people coding in D3 are coming from. Through the use of natural language processing of Meetup Group introductions, co-occurence of D3 API calls, and social network analysis of Meetup group membership, we can all better understand who we are, if there's one or multiple D3 communities, and how this might affect our social and coding practice.

Elijah Meeks is the author of D3.js in Action and the developer of digital humanities projects like ORBIS and Kindred Britain.

Stewart Noyce - D3 Authors by Domain
This talk explores the passion and pride of the D3 community.  Stewart will share the process he took to visualize the D3 examples gallery, which was prompted by his interest in technologies with high growth potential.  And in the spirit of introspection, he will also pose three questions that the community can ask itself at this stage.  Who are we?  Why do we matter?  What can we accomplish?

Stewart brings marketing discipline to early stage technology companies through TruNorth Consulting.  In his career, he has launched products for Sun Microsystems, GeoWorks, Certicom, Avaya, EMC and Real Time Genomics.  He builds D3 visualizations because they are cool.

Ian Johnson - D3 Checkin
Ian will show a prototype app being developed to check members into meetup events, as well as the data it reveals about us.
