AJ Johnson Speaks on "Owning the Moral High Ground"
This month Atheist Advocates of SF is proud to feature AJ Johnson, Development Director for American Atheists, speaking on "Owning the Moral High Ground." She will discuss the superiority of secular morality, the importance of secular media and political framing, and how we can use these tools to win respect, power & allies in our society today -- and tomorrow.
AJ stresses that the secular community should embrace the superiority of secular morality, or social virtues and ethical standards devoid of deities or dogma, and focused on how we affect each other. AJ briefly describes the failings of religious morality and shares a vision for a powerful, positive, secular future; why she thinks it is within our reach; and how we can all help pave the way.
AJ's primary role with American Atheists is handling memberships, donations, and other related duties. She also helps co-host the Atheist Viewpoint, the American Atheists television show. While still fairly new to the secular movement and shortly after being hired as one of three full-time employees, she helped American Atheists host its most successful national convention in its history! AJ also helped David Silverman, American Atheists President and Chair of the Reason Rally Coalition spearhead the largest secular celebration EVER!
Describing the Reason Rally, she says: "Watching backstage as 30,000 people, of all ages, races, genders and backgrounds, from all over the nation and the world, came together on the National Mall in DC - even in the rain - was an amazing sight! The fact that they were there in support of reason, secular government, and acceptance of nonreligious citizens made it one of the most incredible experiences of my entire life. It was truly an honor to play a role in such a historic day."
Afterwards we will go to dinner with AJ at a nearby reasonable Chinese restruarant. Please join us.

The speaker spoke the obvious, rehashing standard doctrine. I had expected a bit more, but this may have been my own naivete.

She really didn't prove her point...but then, what philosopher can find an objective basis for morals?

Unfortunately, I'm double-booked (triple, actually), but if you can make it to hear AJ today, don't miss it - she's awesome!
