Eats @ Radio Africa & Kitchen

Let's dine at Radio Africa!

Here's the restaurant's description taken from their website:

Radio Africa & Kitchen was created by Chef Eskender Aseged. Originally from Ethiopia, Eskender arrived in San Francisco in the late 80's where he spent the next 20 years working in the Bay Area with such luminaire chefs as Jeremiah Tower, Joyce Goldstein, Nancy Oaks, Daniel Peterson and Daniel Humm. During this time, inspired by these great chefs, he began experimenting with different food preparations of his own.

In the Fall of 2004, Eskender started his first “pop up” restaurant right in his own home — serving meals to small groups of friends. Eventually these pop ups expanded to a variety of Bay Area cafés over the course of the next seven years.

Why "Radio Africa"?

The name comes from Eskender’s experience growing up in Ethiopia with very few outlets for popular music and sports. Only one household per neighborhood might have a radio and kids would gather and listen to soccer matches and music, sharing laughter, conversation and snacks.

When you dine with us, you will enjoy a seasonal, nutritionally well-balanced meal that always includes organic vegetables, greens, grains, nuts, wild fish, shellfish and fruit, accompanied by fine herbs and spices.

In 2012, Radio Africa opened its first restaurant in San Francisco’s Bayview District. We look forward to serving you in our new home.

    Hi Everyone,

I've not heard back from anyone about wanting to join the second table I reserved at Radio Africa so I'll just go ahead and cancel that reservation tonight and we'll stick with just our original reservation for one table Friday night.

    Hello All,

The upcoming dinner at Radio Africa & Kitchen is this Friday. Please be courteous to the members on the wait list and update your RSVP if you know you can't make it.

Be aware that the restaurant is located in the Bayview which is not the greatest part of San Francisco. I will be taking the KT from the Embarcadero. You are welcome to join me if you don't want to venture out to the Bayview alone. Drop me a line if you are interested.

    Have a great week,

    Lincoln

    Hi All,

Since there are 3 of us on the Wait List for Radio Africa I phoned the restaurant to see if there were any more tables to accommodate us. There was no problem in booking another table. So I booked a table for 4 at the same time in my name. If anyone wishes to join this additional table, please let me know by Thursday; if I don't get enough response I'll cancel the table Thursday evening so as not to inconvenience the restaurant.

When there are people on the Wait List do organizers check with the restaurant about booking more space? It would have been a shame for people to be left out and the restaurant to lose business when there were actually more spaces available!

Also, does anyone know if there is a bar in the restaurant, or nearby, where people can meet for drinks before the meal?

    Thanks, Victoria

great Lina we'll see you there. I think you might be right about lack of bar-- I see only beer & wine on yelp -- but that works for me :)

    Hi Y'all,

Just a reminder that I booked a second table at Radio Africa for Friday night. So far I haven't gotten any responses; if no one is interested by Thursday evening I'll go ahead and cancel it Thursday evening and we'll just stick with the original table.

    Hey Lincoln, two comments:
    a) I'd love to come to this if it were on Mar 22 not Mar 29
    b) I see it hasn't been announced yet, which is reason you don't have any rsvps. I hope I can convince you to move it up a week!

    • Frances

ok, so maybe we should eat at another african restaurant on mar 22? :D
