Dinner @ Ippuku

  • May 24, 2013 · 7:30 PM

Want to try Japanese food that isn't sushi? How about some 'yakitori'?

I've never tried this sort of food before, but my online reading indicates it's sort of like tapas for the Japanese pub crowd (also an ideal setup for sharing with fellow foodies).

This place is well known for chicken tartare, and skewered chicken hearts/gizzards, and other unusual dishes.

Update:
The downtown Berkeley BART is walking distance to this restaurant.

How did it go? Did you eat family style? I was going to do this as my first but I was perplexed about how to share the food and bill. For example, when I share with my brother the bill goes to $300, but that wouldn't work with most people.

It went pretty well. Some of us agreed to share family style, and then we decided what to share. You're free to order for yourself if that's your thing too! This is a very easygoing friendly group of foodies. ;-)

Yay! I am supporting Bay Eats events in the East Bay and hope more members will do the same. Thanks Pedrum for hosting again. And yes, this event is "BARTable."

It's basically all skewered grilled food, small portions (popular while drinking beer) & at the end you finish by having some ramen.

Shoot, hosting elsewhere already this night. Been wanting to try this since reading Patricia Unterman's review: http://untermanonfood.com/ippuk...

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
