Big Data Analysis Patterns: What Shape is Your Data?

This talk starts with a look at the variety of big data technologies and solutions and provides a set of questions to ask about your own problem in order to determine what approaches might be the best choice; talk goes on to explore several specific use cases.

Allen Day - Principal Data Scientist at MapR Technologies
Allen has been working on scientific computing and BigData problems for 15 years, first with Beowulf clusters and Hadoop since 2008. Allen created one of the first video discovery platforms for mobile phones, and also built the largest public database of human gene expression data. Hi Everyone, I've uploaded videos of the talk here:

Unfortunately the audio isn't great (something I'll work on), but the slides are there.

Excellent, in depth content and great discussions. Thank you, Allan, for having great examples to illustrate different applications and approaches to big data problems. I also deeply appreciate the level of depth you went into with the architecture differences underlying the real-world use cases. The percolator concept was well-communicated and quite brilliant. Thanks for spending time on that little gem. And many thanks to MapR.

Will this be streamed or recorded? I fear I may not be able to attend.

Hi Juan, I do not have plans to record, but I can see if we can find someone tonight that would be willing to record.

Just a follow-up note related to last April's presentation at this meet-up on the topic of Apache Drill:
That new open source project recently announced its first milestone release, so there have been big changes since Tomer presented here.

The Bay Area Apache Drill User group is meeting at Cisco on Nov 4:

Speakers will be from Seattle (Tim Chen, Microsoft) and San Jose (Steve Phillips and Jacques Nadeau, MapR). I'm a co-organizer for that meet-up and want to extend an invitation to all of you to join us for an update, technical details, live demo and a spirit of celebration.

RSVP at above link. Hope to see you there (as well as tomorrow night!)
