Pt Reyes Station - Valley Ford, 49/43 mi road ride options

Foiled by the weather forecast last Saturday, so let's try again.

Route: North on CA-1 through Tomales to Valley Ford, then loop through back roads near Dillon Beach and return on CA-1 to Pt Reyes Station. This is for road bikes.

Distance: 49 miles.  A 43 mile option is available with 400 ft less climbing.

Climb: 3600 feet total gain

Start: West Marin Elementary School, 11550 Shoreline Hwy (CA-1), Pt Reyes Station, CA.

Meet at 10:15 am sharp at the school, roll soon afterwards. Allow 1 hr driving time from the GG Bridge. Rain cancels.

Pace will be generally moderate (14-16 mph on flats). Not recommended for beginners.

Note: there is little or no shoulder on long stretches of CA-1, if you do not like that kind of riding. Also, the shortcut is north of Tomales -- it cuts off 6 miles and 400 ft of elevation.  The rest stop for both routes is Tomales on the return leg.

This IS NOT a guaranteed no-drop ride. You should be a self-sufficient rider and able to navigate by yourself if you get separated. I will supply cue sheets.

Great ride. Anyone get GPS data from the ride? Strava screwed me again.

really beautiful ride. Views were foiled around Dillon Beach by heavy fog but still quite exquisite. thanks to David for organizing.

Hey, it's raining in the city and looks like rain in the AM at Point Reyes so I'm not gonna make it. Next time hopefully weather will be more cooperative.

My boyfriend and I would like to check out this route. We'll be slow 13-14mph but will be self-sufficient (map and everything).

Hey Drew, Karin and I are coming from SF. I planned to drive us but love the idea of carpooling if you can take two more peeps and bikes; and no one else needs a ride from the city. I'm in the Inner Richmond and she's in Cole Valley area. Let me know if that works out.
