Marin Cheese Factory - Novato Loop

Another long ride for the slow group (avg 10-12 mph). We will ride from SF to Marin Cheese Factory* (stopping for lunch) and loop through Novato on the way back to SF. There will be rolling hills but no mountain to climb.

Entire route should be about 70-80 miles range. I don't have the exact route map at this time. Returning from Novato to SF may be tricky so we should stay together.

Parking: use the small lot by Lincoln Blvd & Storey Ave. then roll down and meet by the first square sitting platform near the street between the cafe and the gift shop.

Alternate meeting point would be Sausalito Mike's Bike behind the building at 7:45AM.

Route: SF-Fairfax-Nicasio-Cheese Factory-Novato-San Rafael-Sausalito-SF

* Founded in 1865, Marin French Cheese is the longest operating cheese company in America.

Thanks everyone for coming. Did anyone capture the ride in Garmin. If so, can you share the data? BTW, if I can give strong rider award, it would go to Kim. Headlands post ride? wow.

Looking forward to meeting the group in Fairfax at the Roastery, I'll plan to be there by about 9:10. I ride a white Fuji SL and wear a yellow helmet.

I'll be at Mikes Bikes by 7:45am near the drinking fountain. I'll have on a blue Genentech jersey that's covered in technical-looking double helices and what used to be a bright helmet that has faded to pale yellow.

Hi Joi, I'll be there as well, don't know what I'll be wearing but I'm riding a black and white cannondale with red handlebar.

Hello. I look forward to riding with everyone tomorrow. See you at 7. We will try to leave shortly after. If you see no one when you get there, the group has probably left and you can try to catch up at Mike's Bike in Sausalito or ever in Fairfax by the Coffee Roastery. Have fun.

Hi Peter, looking forward to another ride with you this weekend. Due to time constraints I will have to break away when we reach Nicasio.

    July 25, 2013

    • Peter

Hey Steve. Sounds good. Some ride is better than no ride. Out and back ride to Nicasio is a ride by itself.

      July 25, 2013

  • Leo

This sounds like a great ride, and I'm really tempted to join in. At what time should I expect to reach each checkpoint?

    July 24, 2013

    • Peter

Are you trying to join a another location? You can try Mike's Bike in Sausalito at 7:45 or even in Fairfax by Coffee Roastery around 9:15am. Beyond that I don't have estimated time. It depends on the group.

      July 25, 2013

      Okay, thanks Peter.

      July 25, 2013

Hi, is the meeting place at the gg pavilion? I'm not sure where the cafe and gift shop is, hope it's not hard to find.

    July 25, 2013

Correct. Easy to find. Can't miss it.

    • Jennie

Hey Peter, is there a map of this ride anywhere? And can I bring a friend?

      July 25, 2013

    • Peter

Hi Jennie, yes you can. About the map, sorry I don't have a complete route map. I should after this ride. The part from Novato to SF is a bit exploratory. We should stay together.

Hi All, I want to spread the words I got from April at Marin County Bicycle Coalition:

    Hi Peter-
My name is April and I'm with the Marin County Bicycle Coalition. I just happened to notice your ride and give you a heads up.
The Marin County Parks has been receiving a lot of complaints about speeding cyclist on the Mill Valley/Sausalito Bike Path. I did notice that this is a "slow" ride. If you guys could use bike bells on the path that would be great! We are actually hosting a bike bell giveaway on Saturday from 9-12 pm, in the hopes of creating some friendly vibes out there. (Stop by our bell station and say hi to our volunteers or give them lots of rings!)

Be on the lookout for cops who might be patrolling for cyclist running stop signs. I haven't heard that they will be out, but this is summer and they are likely to be out.

Feel free to contact with me questions[masked] ext 7# or [masked]

    July 24, 2013

    • Angel F.

I want a bell! But you didn't say where your station would be.

      July 24, 2013

  • kunal

Won't be able to join in this wknd. Sorry

    July 24, 2013

  • George

Do you have an arrival window for Fairfax? I could join you there, ride out to the Cheese Factory, and return if it's early enough.

    July 24, 2013

    • Peter

Hi George, I expect the group will be in Fairfax around 9:15am. We will hang around the steps across from the Coffee Roastery.

      July 24, 2013

  • Jessica

Can you post the ridewithgps route for this?

    July 24, 2013

    • Peter

Hi Jessica, as mentioned in the description, unfortunately I do not have any map to post. Hope you can join.

Hey Peter I'm back from a few trips! I'd love to go but if you can give me a better idea of elevation gain, etc, I can better decide whether or not I can handle this after being off the saddle for about a month. Yikes!

    July 23, 2013

    • Peter

Hey Aubrey, the biggest hill for this ride would be White Hill. I am pretty sure you can handle it. The pace is slow anyway. Hope to see you join.

      July 23, 2013

  • Mike E.

Peter, I've enjoyed riding with you and am always tempted to go along. I don't have enough time for this one but I hope to go on another ride with you soon. I wish I could have joined you last weekend too.

    July 22, 2013

    • Peter

Hey :Mike. There will be more rides Hope you can join then.

I'd like to join but I can only do one way then I have to split after the cheese factory, I have previous commitment. It's that ok?

    July 18, 2013

    • Peter

Of course. If you know your way, then ride with us as far as you like.

      July 18, 2013

    • Angel F.

Thanks for your reply Peter, I haven't RSVP yet because there may be a chance that I can't make it, but if I do, I'd like to meet you guys in Sausalito.

      July 22, 2013

  • Jenny B.

I will meet you guys in Sausalito behind Mike's Bike that way I will not have to cycle into SF. It has only been a week since I got my road bike so I am being cautious. For those of you that have been riding for a while does this make sense? I don't have my clip shoes or pedals yet.

    July 22, 2013

    • Peter

Jenny, sounds good. meet you there around 7:45AM.

      July 22, 2013
