Sonoma Gran Fondo Abbreviated

  • Bohemian Hwy & Hill St

Bohemian Hwy & Hill St, Occidental, Ca (map)

    38.408348 -122.947975

  • Hear is your chance to do the best of the Levi's Gran Fondo while eliminating 30 miles. It is a  good training ride to help prepare for the 102 mile route coming in early October. It is a very scenic 72 mile (possibly 65 mile) ride with climbing. Total elevation gain is  about 5500ft.

There will be a regroup at Mile 27 and Mile 45 and a 3 mile shortcut in the first 20 miles if you want a little advantage. The ride might be modified to 65 miles after we explore some roads so keep an eye out if 72 miles seems a little too long.

It is suggested that less experienced riders start early at 9am, the rest will roll by 9:30. We should finish before 4PM.

Please bring at least 2 large water bottles,  food, energy bars, a map, and tools. There are limited sources for food along the ride. I can provide a map at the beginning if you request in advance. Forecast high over 85 degrees for Santa Rosa will postpone ride.

There is a Indian restaurant in Jenner Mile 52, at Rte 1 and the Russian river which has mixed reviews, we can discuss at the start whether we will stop for lunch there.

Please review the street views of the google maps to familiarize yourself with the roads, some of the pavement is not smooth but there is little traffic. The first stop is at the two gray barns near the top of the ridge the post box says 30300RT. The second stop is near the top of Meyers Grade at Smith's Ridge Road. Please look at the google map street view point B and C.

    possible alternative route

    first regroup stop mile 27

    Second regroup stop mile 45
