Thanks for uploading these pictures. They are great. One thing I forgot to do at the beginning or in Fairfax is to take a group picture. That would have been awesome for such a large turnout.

Excellent ride with an excellent group of riders! Sorry again that I wasn't at the bridge for the start, but very glad I was able to catch up in Fairfax. Here's my Strava for anyone interested: http://www.strava.com/activities/79022002

Not counting my bonus miles to/from the start and halfway up to East Peak, the ride was 50 miles with 4700 feet of climbing. Great seeing so many of you again, and meeting a bunch of new riding buddies. Until the next one!

OK thanks Lillie and you're welcome.

Ryan, that's bad luck with your phone falling out before the start. Mine fell out towards the end. But, someone turned it in to GGB Info center (anyone here?).

Lovely location to ride! The group didn't have many riders my speed (relatively slow), but anyway I had an enjoyable ride.

"Breathtaking" views :) Great climbs, fun people and beautiful pics. Thanks for putting this together Peter and Ryan!

Absolutely a beautiful ride and great riders. So glad I finally made it. Ryan, thanks for leading the group starting Fairfax. Otherwise, we might get lost. My strava later corrected the climbing from 7500 to 4900ft. That sounds more accurate :). Big thanks to Peter for lending me the sunglasses, saved my eyes. And thanks to Ken for taking the photos. I even didn't know when you did. Awesome people!!!

I am glad everyone enjoyed the ride today. Alpine dam ride is always fun and that is why we repeat it every so often.

Always a good ride. An intermediary distance, lots of climbing and a really nice group of people.

Thanks for a nice ride. I thought it was pretty hard :), but beautiful and fun - except for the descent into Mill Valley and that truck :(. Thanks again everyone!

Great climbs, really enjoyed the ride.

It was ok, the hills were not as steep as I remember and the sun wasn't as hot. The ride to Fairfax seemed shorter and the frittata wasn't as good. About the only thing that seemed familiar was the length of the line for the bathroom at the Roastery.

    August 31, 2013

Looks fabulous and I'll make it if I can. There's some serious climbing on this route!

Awesome workout for me. My Garmin device sucks as it kept showing "course calculation error" but thanks to fellow riders I made it back. I survived!

I'm joining the group behind Mike's in Sausalito at 8:30-8:35am. Anyone else meeting there?

    August 28, 2013

  • Peter

Hello Everyone. Thank you for your interest in this ride. It is a beautiful and fun ride but there is a lot of work involved. Be sure you are aware of the mileage and elevation gain and prepare accordingly. The place to stock up/fill up is in Fairfax. If you don't want to continue, Fairfax would also be the place to turn around. We will try to roll shortly after 8am. If you are late you can catch up at Mike's Bikes (8:30-35) or even in Fairfax (9:30-45). The group will probably spread out into numerous subgroups with Ryan way in front and myself toward the rear. In Fairfax, we will regroup at the Java hut. If you are not familiar with route, you should carry the routesheet with you. If you have any question, go ahead and ask. Many riders I see have done this ride before. Once again, be prepared for a workout but have fun also.

And remember to bring a patch kit and/or spare tube for your size tires, too. Looking forward to seeing a lot of you again, and to meeting the rest of you tomorrow morning!

  • Jennifer T.

Hello! This will be mine and hubby's first ride with the group. We haven't been keeping in biking shape lately so are a little intimidated. Do people just do half (and turn around) of the ride in case it's too overwhelming for us? Thanks!

    August 30, 2013

    • Jennifer T.

Thanks Peter! I will make sure we have a route sheet with us!

      August 30, 2013

    • jiro

Jennifer, the ride to fairfax is nice. Don't go the rest of the way. You would probably regret it.

      August 30, 2013

  • Franny

Sadly, I had to cancel our Labor Day Tahoe bike trip due to the unpredictable risk of smoke since the fire is only 30% contained. But I look forward to this ride and will also meet at Mike's Bikes.

    1 · August 29, 2013

    • Don W.

Hey Franny, sorry to hear about the cancellation but will be nice to see you on this ride.

      August 29, 2013

    • Lawrence

      See you at Mike's!

      August 30, 2013

  • jiro

Peter and Ryan, I think it useful that we have more than 2 groups. 30 people in a group is going to be a very slow herd.

    August 30, 2013

    • Peter

Jiro, you can help lead some of the faster riders also. I expect 80% (or more) here will be in that group.

      August 30, 2013

  • jiro

Folks, This is not a ride for a beginning cyclist. This is a ride for someone who likes climbing hills for about 2 hours! Bring 2 water bottles and a snack. The ride to Fairfax and back is a pleasant 40 mile ride with few hills. Leaving Fairfax towards the dam is all up and there is no easy bail out route.

    August 30, 2013

    • Franny

Two bottles and a SNACK? Are you kidding? One bottle of water, one of lytes, orange, PBJ sandwich, powerbar, dried fruit, and a yogurt that won't "explode" in my jersey pocket. I bet it's going to be hot, too.

      August 30, 2013

    • Peter

I don't think it will be cold but I could be wrong. I would worry more about the heat when going through the 7 sisters.

I dunno if I'm in the mood for such a large crowd. My derailleur has been acting up and I'm still getting up to speed after two weeks of extreme fatigue. We'll see.

A few points for initiates: long steep climbs. long fast descents, no water from Fairfax to Pantoll Ranger Station on Panoramic. Have 2 water bottles for that section.

    3 · August 25, 2013

    • Peter

I think 9:45 is a good ETA for us.

      August 29, 2013

Yes, that would work. See you Ginny.

Yes, I've never ridden at high altitudes and am not able to take off enough time to go up there early and get acclimated. It will be interesting, I'll just be happy to finish it my first try without dying.

Are non customers allowed to park at Sportbasement parking lot?
I would hate to have the car towed?
