Mount Tam, East Peak

This is a climbing ride. From SF, we will ascend to the top of Mt. Tam (East Peak). Distance will be about 43 miles with about 4800 ft cumulative elevation gain.
Route: http://ridewithgps.com/routes/190712

Pace: slow, about 10-12 mph avg. (This ride is mainly for the non-hammering folks.) When descending, do it at the speed you feel comfortable with.

We will several regroup points to be announced during the ride. Bring lunch to eat at the top. Since this ride is not too far from SF, feel free to leave the group and return anytime. Bring the usuals. Be self-sufficient.

Was nice to see you Audrey. Did not see you the summit though. Perhaps you took an extended route?

Hi Peter, Thanks for organizing this. I rode with Paul pretty much the whole way. The route we took is exactly what Armando posted above from his Garmin. On our way to summit we passed by the fast guy you said knows the way. But after Pantoll and summit, we decided to roll and not finish super late. Perhaps we headed back before the rest got to the summit?

Hello. This is another big group and I look forward to seeing veryone. Please plan to be at the GGB pavilion by 8:30am. We will leave shortly after that. If you miss the group, you can try to catch us at the Depot Bookstore and Cafe (http://www.depotbookstore.com/) in Mill Valley. We will be there for about 10-15mins before the long climb up. I ride and climb slow but several here are quite fast so the climb will be very spread out. Hopefully we will regroup at the top before the ride down. Don't forget to bring something to eat at the top and enjoy the view.

    September 13, 2013

Correct. We meet at the Bridge pavilion. If you park at Sportsbasement, make sure to allow enough time to ride up to the bridge. See you Cori.

So, do you reckon it's a 4-hour ride?

    September 11, 2013

    • Peter

I would say longer than that. more like 6 hrs. However, if you come, you can turn around if you are short of time.

I'm interested in this ride, curious what kind of trail is it? Can I do it with my Giant flat-bar road bike or do I necessarily need a mountain bike with the mountainey tires?

    August 26, 2013

    • Peter

It is all paved road riding.
