Christmas Day Ride: Iron Horse Trail to Martinez Waterfront Park (Oakland Start)

Let's take advantage of the quiet trail on Christmas Day!

Details: 65 miles, 16-18 MPH on the flats, 2000 feet of climb.  All hills at the beginning.

Meet: 9:15 AM, Depart sharply at 9:30 AM  (Closest BART station is Oakland 12th St., about 3 miles away)

Alternate start to avoid hills: West Dublin/Pleasanton BART @ 11:15 AM (VERY approximate)

Ascend the classic Butters Drive and dip down into Redwood Rd., through Castro Valley, up and down the gradual Dublin Canyon Rd. to where we'll meet any Dublin riders.  Then we head north all the way along the Iron Horse Regional Trail until the end and take a loop around Martinez Waterfront Park for well-deserved refreshing breezes at the end of the ride.

(Can't promise breezes, but it sounds good.)

Map: http://www.mapmyride.com/routes/fullscreen/337065951/ (rough sketch, not accurate mileage)

Departure: North Concord/Martinez BART  (Bailouts are Walnut Creek or Pleasant Hill BART)

Activity Fee: 2.00 (to cover organizer event planning.)

Bring: The usual, and be self-sufficient with drink and food, although we will take rest stops and a lunch stop at Starbucks and gas stations as needed (both open x-mas day.)

You stubborn leader proceeded along ugly Monument Blvd. into the lovely town of Concord, passed another couple of Starbucks and a Safeway, oh and a cemetery, and then caught another 2 mile path to Martinez BART. It was a nice end to a lovely day and a great little group.. Thanks for coming!

Anyone driving from the city? Any idea when you'll be done riding?

Hi Eve, there is one cyclist from El Cerrito on Bike the Bay. So that's no help. Were a nice small group. Most of the ride is flat and our breaks will be shorter. So, I'm guessing 2:30-3:30-ish depending if we want to do the Martinez waterfront. Lots of bailout points. Just read the posting. Thanks.

Oh well. I'll probably just do some variation of Paradise loop then. I don't have enough time to deal with BART. Have fun!!

I have one other person signed up on BTB, I'll do this ride if at least one other person joins me. Please update your RSVP. We can modify the ride as desired. Thanks!

I messed up the map. It's somewhere between 53-55 miles depending on what we do.
