    Thanks Ryan

Thanks, Ryan. I didn't even have a good bike till 2 months ago and just learned to use clip on pedals recently. My first serious ride was on Hawk Hill on my brother's aluminum Fugi with flat pedals. After that first embarrassing ride, which was a huge struggle for me, I was determined to get better. Yes! I'm looking forward to riding with you all again soon.

Having been riding for only about 4 months and probably being one of the seniors of this group, I wasn't sure if I could keep up with such a group of young riders, especially having heard of the grueling 7 sisters. I'm very happy to have conquered both the sisters and also making it to the summit and to have done it with such a nice and fun group. Thanks to the organizers and fellow riders. Hoping to do more rides and challenges. One thing I've learned from this ride...bring more food! Downing a big breakfast and then a pastry at Fat Angel, followed by 4 oatmeal cookies didn't cut it. When I finally rode all the way home at 3:30, I sat down and ate almost non stop for 30 minutes.

Norm, I agree about the food. My heart rate monitor showed I burned 2700 calories. I only brought a bottle of hibiscus tea. Finally stopped at a taco stand in Sausalito and broke from the group. Went for a swim today, and it helped my recovery. Hope to see u next time. I'm game to do this one again after some more riding.

You did a seriously amazing job riding, I can't believe you've only been riding 4 months! I wouldn't have attempted this ride 4 months in, I could barely do a full hawk hill loop then. Looking forward to seeing you on another ride soon!

    Oscar,
Only a bottle of tea? I would have literally passed out if that was all I had. I have super fast metabolism and burn a lot more calories than the average person. Yeah, great ride. Definitely will do this one again.

I made this video for fun and for my learning experience. My first and probably my only one. : )

Alpine Dam to Mt. Tam. Damn! That was a beautiful and challenging ride. Thanks to Peter for organizing and Peter and Ryan for leading. It's always great to see so many familiar cyclists and meet new ones.

Thanks Ryan for leading this massive ride. Posting is easy. If anyone on this ride wants to lead any ride, just post it as a suggestion. The rest is easy.

Peter, My minimum for leading a ride is 50 devout followers or 75 fair weather flyers. How about you?

Great ride. Wonderful people! Thanks to organizers and fellow riders for a pleasurable event.

A great ride -- exhausting, too, and that is not a bad thing. Ryan was a great leader. It was fun that the group sort of divided and rejoined at various times along the way.

See everyone tomorrow at the bridge at 8:30 and at Mike's bike at 9:05AM. Ryan will lead the entire ride. I believe he will be going to top of Mt. Tam also (East peak).

Question: how fast is "fast"? I average 13-15mph on long hilly rides like this one (which I've only done in the opposite direction!).

That sounds about right for our "fast" group. It's nowhere near a race pace, just not slow.

      Sweet! See you Saturday.

I would like to remind everyone to be sure and come prepared with, at minimum: a spare tube correct for your tire size, plenty of snacks, and at least one large, or preferably two, water bottles. There is nowhere to refill water between our main rest stop at Fat Angel, and Pantoll Ranger station, of which almost all the hard climbing comes between. See you all on Saturday at the bridge!

      See you at Mike's!

      May 5, 2014

To everyone who is coming to this ride, Ryan will lead the group right from the bridge. The major regroup point will be at the fat angel bakery in Fairfax before heading over to the dam.

Peter, rode it from Marin City today for the first time in 6 months. I survived! It was beautiful and a bit cold. The descents were spectacular with very little traffic.

      May 5, 2014

    • Peter

Jiro, you are one strong rider as I recall. This should be your easy ride.

      May 5, 2014

Are we stopping somewhere for lunch or will Fat Angel Bakery be it?

Fat angel will be the only significant stop.

the links don't give much info about the ride. can you tell us more about how hard & how long it is?

    April 28, 2014

    • jiro

4 miles of bridge, bike path and approach roads, 15 miles of suburbs to Fairfax, then long climbs, often steep for short pitches, sometimes wet in the redwoods from the fog. Beautiful views from the occasionally hot 7 sisters (land of BMW commercials). No water from Fairfax to Pantoll on Panoramic. Fast descents. The best hilly and beautiful climb a short ride from SF.

      April 24, 2014

    • Franny

Ryan, we added it on to the last Stinson Beach ride. It's a different kind of "climb." Very up and down to get up there, but def worth it!
