Tour de Peninsula - a fun event for all levels

The Tour de Peninsula is coming up again. August 4th at Coyote Point. Those that have done this ride will know it offers great value for the $45 entry fee ($50 after July 1). http://supportparks.org/tdp/event.html

A lot of families participate together, some people don't wear lycra and there are almost none of the weekend racer types.

Route options include 20 miles, 31 miles, 56 and 63 miles. All routes include the great Sawyer Camp Trail alongside Crystal Springs Reservoir. The start/finish venue is Coyote Point Park, which is a warm, sunny, bayside location shaded by big eucalyptus trees.

Velo Paradiso members usually ride at their own pace and then meet for a post-ride lunch and story-sharing at a picnic table in the finish area. Rides begin at 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. depending on the route option.

The big question will be how to get to the ride venue in the morning. The start is too early for BART or CalTrain, so people will have to either ride or carpool. I will ride.  If you can offer space in your car, post a comment below. If the passengers want a ride back with you, be sure to coordinate on ride distance.

Hey Raul, thanks for posting those pics! Yeah, it's a little hit and miss with the Meetup location at the venue, and it usually works best as a place to meet post-ride and share stories over a sandwich. I met people from from three different Meetup groups at that table! BTW, congrats for conquering Kings Mountain Road!

Thanks Paul. I agree, the fact that there was no post ride chow meant everyone scattered pretty fast. We were also late getting back as I love getting snacks and waiting for others at the rest stops. lol The descent made the Kings Mountain climb worth it. ;) Hopefully we'll be able to ride in the near future.

Only a couple of people at the MeetUp location, but had a nice chat with Erica? (sorry I'm bad with names, lol) who was doing the later ride. I uploaded a few photos. Hopefully everyone had a great ride. Most climbing I've ever done.

Hi All. Since there are two start waves, at 7 and 8 a.m., and people ride at their own pace, it doesn't usually work to approach this like a usual Meetup group ride. But what has worked in the past is if I put up a small Meetup sign by one of the picnic tables over by the fence on the golf course side, maybe 20 yards from the toilet block. The sign is the Meetup logo like at the top of this page. It will be at about waist height. Gather there before your ride, take a rest and grab a bite to eat after and we'll share our stories. Look forward to seeing y'all there!

Anybody want to carpool from SF? I'm doing the 56 miler, and have room on the car rack for 2 more.

ugh, you write about the invasive, combustible, allergenic eucalyptus trees as if they were a feature of the park instead of a bug.
