SF/Bay Area Cycling Landmarks | 34 miles, 3100' climb

                                   View from Hawk Hill

Description:

34 miles.  3100' climb.  Some rollers.  Two long climbs.  Two steep descents.  Pace 14-16 MPH on the flats.  10 minute wait at the top of steep climbs. (waiting for me!)  This is a social ride, not a race!  No sweeper.

We will visit some famous cycling landmarks of the Bay Area:  GGB, Hawk Hill, Sausalito, The Presidio, Inspiration Point, The Panhandle and "The Wiggle."  There will be views, views, views, if we have decent weather.  Even the fog shrouded Bay is beautiful.  We will ride along as many of the bike paths and lanes in SF as possible including the famous "Wiggle" and complete the loop back to the Ferry Building.

Meet: 9:30 AM  Roll: 9:45 AM sharp

                                            SF Presidio

                                          Inspiration Point

Lunch Stop: Venice Deli or others in Sausalito for an outdoor picnic.

Bring:  Spare tube, helmet, snacks, water, lytes, cameras, action!

Organizer Fee: 2.00

It would be cool to see edited videos if either Mike or Craig got good shots! The ride was so fun that after I showered I went out and bought two more jerseys, shorts, and three pairs of socks!

I haven't checked the video yet, I mostly recorded the bigger descents only. I'll post a comment if I get a chance to edit.

It was a pleasure riding with everyone and seeing some familiar faces from previous rides.

What a fun cycle and a great group of cyclists. Lots of gorgeous views and the amazing and exhilarating descent after Hawk Hill reminded me of why I love cycling. Thanks Franny for another fun day on wheels!

Thanks so much for coming on the ride today~seriously, this one was the BEST groups of cyclists ever! So friendly, gelled and considerate. If you didn't notice, we inadvertently did an extra climbing loop! You are awesome-hope to see you again soon :)

It sounds like the wiggle is the last landmark before returning to the ferry building. Is this correct?

    July 21, 2014

    • Franny

Yup...unless you want to stop by a landmark Mission restaurant before heading back...

The wiggle is just three blocks from Alamo Square, if anyone wants to check it out. That'll be my start and end point

Fran - what is our ETA for finishing?

    July 21, 2014

    • Franny

Sandra, I hesitate to set end times because it largely depends on the group's pace, time it takes to order food and eat, viewpoint stops, restroom stops and other factors. However, I suppose it's safe to say we would be finished between 2 and 3 pm. Don't hold me to it, though! Of course, cyclists can always break away anytime.
