SF Beginners' ride GGPark - Presidio - OBeach - Zoo - Twin Peaks

My wife and I will be doing this 22 mile route at a relaxed pace to train for the Tour de Peninsula. No drop, non-stop, 8-10mph rolling pace. A HELMET IS REQUIRED, as are a spare tube and a way to inflate it. IF YOU MISS THE SAFETY TALK YOU MAY NOT JOIN THE RIDE. We will roll at 10am promptly. Please check your bike's condition at least 24 hours in advance as these rides sometimes bring out riders that haven't ridden their bikes for a while. I don't drive so I can't advise where people should park. Remember, you’ll have your bike with you so you don’t need to park close to the start. Bring plenty of water, wear sunscreen and in SF it’s wise to carry an extra layer of clothing with you. A windbreaker is usually enough. Roads are paved and the routes are chosen for minimal traffic and wide shoulders, having been an SF cyclist for 15 years I know these roads well. Safety and comfort on the road is paramount.

The statue is at the very East end of the Golden Gate Park Panhandle across from the DMV.

My first ride with the group and it was a well planned, invigorating ride totaling 28.35 miles (including bike to Castro Valley BART and "wiggle" to the panhandle). Enjoyed some new-to-me parts of SF and even the hills were doable for this senior.

Don - probably on the 22nd and 29th. my hope is that some of the other local cyclists could continue this without me. 13 people intend to show up, 8 more showed interest, someone just needs to post that they know the route and will show up to ride it, others will do the same. it's fun to cruise around SF and enjoy the sites. it's also a good excuse for a nice fat & lazy Sunday lunch.

Mike... Can't make it to the City this weekend. Are you planning on leading this ride again soon?

Mike: Is the "safety talk" at the starting line or on a different date? My compliments on your "ridewithgps" site.. I just joined it. Thanks!
