I have nothing against nudity nor do I think what you are doing is illegal.  It is just very misguided.  Naked cycling?   Come on.  It is just stupid.

We become so entrenched in being entitled and exercising our constitutional rights that we suspend our good judgment and instead look for reasons to justify really irresponsible and inappropriate behavior like this.

I think naked cycling is this sort of self indulgent nonsense and I will not support it or participate in it.  That has nothing to do with my views on freedom of expression and individual liberties.  I just think what you are doing is dumb and harms cycling's image.  Clearly that is of no concern to you.

Hi Wayne, well it is a free country and as an attorney, I'm sure you're aware of the First Amendment and Freedom Of Expression. An attorney I know, Charles Harris, represents naturists causes and the higher courts have defended these types of protests, which are also typical of PETA, women's top-free equality and breast cancer awareness. Simple nudity is harmless to youth and they if anything need to establish positive images of the human body and learn it is nothing to be ashamed of. Shoving a puritanical philosophy down their throats only induces needless shame and poor self-esteem. Some youth today are even afraid to shower after gym class as a result of conservative attitudes equating nudity with sex, with are not necessarily synonymous.

As far as family recreation, many families engage in naturist recreation at clubs such as Lupin in Los Gatos or beaches such as Red Rock. Clothing optional beaches and parks are very common in Europe, as Europeans have long gotten over the sophomoric attitude that there is anything wrong with the human body. After all, God designed it that way.

If you can produce a 1000 word essay on why nudity is harmful, especially to children, George Davis, long-time nudist advocate and former SF mayoral candidate has a $500 challenge to anyone that can produce statements of fact to support that position.

No, not appropriate under any circumstances.  This nonsense is very misguided and counterproductive for cycling's image as a family recreation and youth sport.

OK, this isn't your typical Bay Area Cycling ride. It's part of an international oil protest. Our San Francisco group has been supporting the Southern Hemisphere riders for the past two years. We still have our main ride in June too. It's not mandatory to be naked, so even the timid can ride. Please pass along this event info to your friends and contacts.
