Awesome Tuscan war castle Wine adventure !

  • Oct 13, 2013 · 9:30 AM
  • State park mail Box at Larkmead Lane

This may be the last outing here until maybe sometime in late Nov. ??  Then nothing until Feb. 2014.

Always a very long & fun day.  The tempo builds & by the time the castle tour is finished after our wine tasting, everyone  goes wild;  and I have to call the castle guards to remove them from the bowels of the castle. Aka:  Dungeon & Torture Chamber.

No joke !!  This is a special day out of the ordinary.

Directions: From anywhere in the Universe get to hwy 29 North to St. Helena.  Go thru town & thru the tunnel of trees & past the C.I.A.( Culinary Institute of America).

The meet up location is about 3 miles from the CIA.  Go past the Bale Grist Mill sign.  Go past the fire dept.  Go past Bale lane &  look to your right & see Madrigal winery. Go 1 blk. past & hit LARKMEAD LANE on your right.  Go just past the big Park mailbox & park against the bushes facing East. ************ The address on the mailbox is 3801  The zip code for Calistoga is 94515.

We will shuttle a short distance from this point.

EVENT DESCRIPTION: A beautiful 5-7 mile moderate trek gradually up to Coyote peak for nice Southern Napa valley views.  Mixed forest of Bay, Laural, Oak, Madrone , Manzanita & the farthest eastern grove of coastal redwoods in Ca.

Fern lined creeks & bridges. Rocky viewpoints.  Silent & lush valleys. A waterfall. (May be just a trickle at this time) A great log walk. (optional) & more.

Lunch will be above the Castle with wine at a private island & lakeside location.  Just us as I'm the only one allowed to use this area.  Lucky us.  (It's good to be friends with the owner)  Dario Satui of the famed V. Satui italian wine family.

Then we will take a short stroll to the high vineyards for fab. valley views & then cross the Drawbridge & Moat & dropgate as we enter this original replica of a Tuscan style War castle.

This took 17 years to construct & used no cement.  Much was imported from Italy & local craftsman also created the finer art & interior designs, etc.

We will have a short castle tour  & then have our wine tasting in a private room on one of the eight levels of the castle.  (Castelo Di Amorosa)

I'll supply/pay parking fees, Water, Juice, Tea, snacks, Trail bars, Energy Drinks, gourmet Fruit & Nut packs, hiking poles, car shuttles,  & wine at our picnic location.

Cost $25. ($ or Chk).   The castle tour & tasting is $19.00 and is optional, but well worth it. (Too much fun to miss it).  If you are not a wine drinker I can still arrange your entry into the castle.

If you are not too tired after this we, usually have our dinner option to continue our fun with old & new friends.

*****Yes it's a long day ; so go to bed early on sat. night.  I never eat, sleep or drink, or get tired. But the  regular members already know this.

Bring a guest & wear good hiking shoes .  We will be under shade about 75% of the time.

More info later; as i usually forget something.

I don't know Laura ?? This is not my group.
I just posted it on the Prof. guild's site as a way to get some of them out of the indoor & drinking scene & into fresh air & exercise, etc.

Must there always be some "hot" babe? Does sexism really work here? What a pity.
