This casual, long-awaited Temescal spot with hot-pink walls and monkey wallpaper from Chef Preeti Mistry has gotten attention from Zagat, Sunset, SW Airlines, Time Out Mumbai and all the local foodie publications. Juhu Beach Club offers updated Cali-Indian treats inspired by its namesake, a city beach in Mumbai known for street food, flying kites and Bollywood ballers.
Be prepared to share lots of little (pricey) plates of things like lamb sliders in ginger tomato sauce, masala fries, and black cardamom braised short ribs. There are some larger curry plates, including a spicy chickpea and a heavenly shrimp. Drinks range from cilantro lemonade with toasted cumin, to wine by the glass and carafe. Dessert is fusion: soft serve ice cream with curried nuts.
JBC serves sustainably sourced meat, poultry, fish/seafood and dairy. Most produce is local and organic. Breads are baked by Starter Bakery in Oakland. As to be expected, adequate veggie options.
The place is a bit hard to find. Look for the tiny mall with the check-cashing place across from the Temescal Library on 51st between Shattuck and Telegraph.
