*** Carpool available from Berkeley.
This will be a short adventure in Soquel Demonstration Forest, the funhouse ride of the Bay Area.
The climbing is moderate. The descent is generally considered intermediate/advanced. However, there are go-arounds for every area with big hits, so as long as you keep am eye out you'll be safe.
The plan is to do one descent: Ridge/Sawpit.
CA-17 South -> exit Summit Road and do a sharp U-loop as you exit to head southeast (you'll cross over the highway) -> left onto Summit at the stop sign -> continue on as Summit Road turns into Highland Way -> about 5 miles from the freeway exit, Summit intersects with Mount Bache -> make a right at the intersection, then a quick left, to stay on Highland -> continue down Highland about 5 more miles till you see a bridge on the right and the signed entrance to the park -> cross the bridge into the main dirt parking area.
Safety warning: There are reports of car break-ins at Demo Forest. On the weekends, it's less likely to occur due to the higher volume of people at the park. However, it's still a good idea to remove valuable stuff from your car prior to going.
