Secrets of Sirtuin Pathways

Health Extension Salon welcomes you to join us at Berkeley Biolabs for a Saturday afternoon brunch, from 12:00-4:00!

Danica Chen, Assistant Professor, Ph.D. Molecular and Cell Biology, University of California-Berkeley , will discuss her findings regarding how Sirtuin pathways can not only slow aging, but apparently reverse it.
The aging process is regulated genetically and lifespan can be extended by single gene mutations. Sirtuins are a highly conserved protein family with unique NAD+-dependent protein deacetylase activity. Increased dose of sirtuins extend lifespan in model organisms. The functional studies of sirtuins will have direct pharmaceutical implications. Our studies open up the possibility of using sirtuin activators as potential pharmaceutical interventions for other diseases of aging. Understanding how sirtuins regulate various biological pathways at the molecular level will provide the basis for testing the drugs.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
