Paddle to the Symphony is a Celebration of Southeast Michigan outdoor groups and a Reunion for Hostelling International members – the founders of the event. This annual tradition is open to HI-USA members (current and former), SOLAR members and any group, club or individual. HI and SOLAR members receive a discount to paddle (membership status will be confirmed).
This year’s Paddle to the Symphony will be Saturday, July 12, 2014. The event organizer is collaborating with Heavner Canoe to provide a fun evening on the water while enjoying the sounds of the Michigan Philharmonic. Meet at Kensington Metro Park in Milford, Michigan at the shoreline, near the North Martindale Picnic Shelter.

Do NOT follow the signs to the concert, as we are positioned across the lake. Instead, follow the signs to “Martindale Beach,” park and walk past shelter "S" and go to the shoreline (you'll see the canoes near the water). Anyone going on the water should arrive by 6:30 p.m.
2014 Paddle Options:
Paddle: One seat in a canoe (some kayaks will be available). Price is $20.00 per person for SOLAR Members and HI-USA Members. All others are $25.00 per person.
Bring your own kayak or canoe: Price is $5.00 per person (this fee pays for refreshments and organization of the event)
Guests may hear the music from shore.
Water and soft drinks will be available for everyone. All canoes and kayaks MUST have at least one adult per watercraft.
Please Note: With any option you choose, you will still be responsible for the park vehicle entrance fee of $7.00, so carpool if you can.
We'll all meet at the shoreline near the North Martindale Beach Shelter.
What about food? We will NOT be offering food this year. Since the event is on a Saturday, the park's concession stands will be open. We will have soft drinks at the shoreline before you set off.

What to Bring:
• Sunscreen and/or Hat
• Change of clothes if you choose to canoe (just in case)
• Jacket, Snacks and Food, Lawn Chairs
The cost is $25/person
Registration is required to attend. While the concert is free, our paddle event has a fee and everyone must register. Payment handled separate from this meetup group. The two options are:

The DNR has the final say regarding watercraft going on the water. If weather conditions restrict canoeing then we will shuttle attendees to the concert and back. Heavner Canoe will offer vouchers to return to canoe if this happens. Please note this has only happened once in all the years of the event.
