Skate at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park

Our skate venue at Hugh Taylor Birch State Park is suitable for skaters of all levels. It is a smooth 1.8 mile loop around the park with some nice areas of shade and great views of the Intracostal Waterway.

We'll meetup at 9:30 am at the north parking lot area of the park which is just off Sunrise Blvd and A1A in Ft. Lauderdale. Park in the parking area close to pavilion 3 and we'll start our skate at 9:45 am. All day parking is free for members of the Friends of Birch State Park CSO (annual membership is $50.00) or $6.00 per vehicle, so car pooling is a great idea.

SKATE DETAILS: We'll begin by skating the perimeter loop around the park. You can skate at your own pace and do as many loops as you wish. After the skate we’ll regroup and find a local restaurant for brunch.

Remember to bring sunscreen, bug spray, and water for the skate itself. This a great skate for all levels (see the About Us page for a description of the levels) and the total distance for the skate will depend on how many of the 1.8 mile loops you choose to do.

The 2/16 date was a mistake. I corrected the calendar but it was too late to change the announcement invitation.

Sorry, I just noticed above that the date for your event is 2/23. My invitation said 2/16.

I can't make it on Sunday (because of the marathon traffic) but I did skate there today. After a long hiatus, I decided to get new Rollerblades. Tried them out on the park's smooth loop, and by lap 2 I was almost back to my old self. Did 4 loops with a big smile on my face. Check with the park about Sunday's access; I thought I saw a notification about parking on Sunday. And has anyone ever "skated" the marathon route? Just wondering . . . I know some NY skaters used to skate the NY marathon (without permission) before the runners started. Btw, beautiful park, excellent conditions and I can't wait to get back there.

We can eat at THE DECK on A1A just S of Sunrise, or Myapapaya on Sunrise and Bayview, both GREAT places...
