Celebrate the Mexican national holiday with a great dive and picnic with friends.
The turtles are feeding on the patch reef to fuel their long crawl up the beach to lay their eggs. Grasses, algae, and sea cress flourish on the patches with colorful tropicals coloring the scene like wild flowers. This is the time to practice your photo skills on this picturesque reef that is an easy swim off the beach.
We'll gather and gear up at some tables next to the Broadwalk in the park. Our plan is to be in the water between 9:30 and 10:00am for a leisurely dive that should max at 24' depth. Most divers can expect a solid 45 to 60 minutes bottom time on a 80 cu ft tank. This dive is easy enough for newer divers and we will have experienced divers to guide the reef. We'll also have a brief beach diving clinic for those who have never dove except from a boat.
Entry to the park is right off N. Ocean Drive and Sheridan St. Parking is only $6 for the entire day. Freshwater showers and restroom facilities are available. We'll coordinate food on a pot luck basis. The tables have grills installed, so the usual barbeque fare can work pretty well.
Note that we have a Discover Scuba event in the afternoon that is FREE for your friends. (We charge bystanders and non-members $99 for this experience.) If you can bring an extra tank of air for your guest, that will make it easier to give them a full dive experience. RSVP on the Discover Dive, if you want us to reserve a spot for you.
