Bonfire on Seabright Beach, Santa Cruz

Sunday of Labor Day Weekend!
(cross posted with my other meetup group).

At 7 am I will claim a firepit. I'll bring firewood, one ice chest, a few marshmellow sticks and a big table. Bathrooms and a snackbar are nearby.

During the day you can drop your stuff and walk to the boardwalk, swim and hopefully, r-e-l-a-x.

At night get ready to party. We'll stoke the fire, crank the tunes
sing, dance and see how many warnings we can get from the rangers.

This is a California State Park and no alcohol is allowed. I have a don't ask, don't tell, don't be stupid rule.

POTLUCK: Please bring food and drink to share.  I have just 6 cooking sticks to share. They can be used to cook hot dogs or make shish kebobs (meat chunks and vegetables would be fun) or marshmallows.

Make sure your food is safe to eat if left in the sun (or bring a cooler with ice)

Here's a generic list of things to bring:

Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, chair, towel, swimsuit, flip flops, water shoes a change of clothes after sunset (it will get chilly, but the fire will be warm, ahhhh)

Paper plate, cups, spoon, fork, napkin, trash bag

**Someone needs to bring a boom box with music for dancing after sunset...if you got this, post in your RSVP.

HOW TO FIND US

Click on "Sea Bright Beach" (above, under the date and time), you can zoom it or change it from satellite to "MAP".

The State Park sign (in the picture above) says Seabright and Twin Lakes (YES, it may be confusing). I have positioned the icon on the map and it is accurate. I can't say exactly which firepit I will get, however.

Parking may be difficult. Traffic will be busy and the day will be warm and I don't want you to arrive stressed out.  Study the map beforehand.

HOW TO KNOW IF YOU ARE IN THE RIGHT PLACE???

If the ocean is in front of you the lighthouse will be to your Left.

You may be able to pause the car at the beach entrance to drop off people and "stuff". See the photo above? It says "keep clear" but everyone does it. That doesn't mean a cop won't hassle you, it just means cops aren't usually there. The entrance above is in the upper RIGHT hand corner below.

My pleasure. Where I am from, summer ends on Labor Day and my summer was not complete without the Beach Bonfire. Don't you want to know how the long story turned out? The story game ends when someone says "THE END". I need closure.

    Hi Beth Ann,

You think of everything! A friend and I will be leaving San Jose at about 3:00PM. I'll have some hot dogs and buns for anyone interested in a mid-day snack. I'm looking forward to meeting you all and enjoying the bonfire. Thanks so much for organizing this, Beth ANN!

I'm here. Blue dot on foto is our spot exactly (screen capture from iPad). The sun and dolphins are playing peek a boo. I forgot flashlight, extra toilet paper (when the public toilet supply runs out) hand sanitizer.

Kathy inquired in her RSVP about where to get wood.
    (sorry, I just saw it)
I bought a 1/4 cord last year, and have a good bit, but it is so beautifully cured (in other words, extremely dry) that it burns hot and fast.
That's why I put the call out.
The grocery store sells wood in winter, but I haven't seen any, yet.
    Thoughts?

Thanks for organizing this Beth Ann, you are a goddess... will be there (not sure exactly when) and would be happy to help you schlep stuff off beach afterwards, least we could do, look forward to meeting you... cheers, :-)

P.S. I am getting there really early (first thing Saturday morning) to make sure we have a firepit. And, I am doing this all alone (pouty lip). Please, if you can help me at then end of the evening I would be so appreciative. After 15 hours on the beach I won't have the enthusiasm to get my tables, cooler, chair and other miscellany to my SUV.

Getting psyched for Sunday! I'll have the place and youse guys (Philly accent: yeh, I'm talking to YOU!) bring the party. Worrying that I will have enough FIREWOOD for dinner and the evening. The temp's will be cooler than normal. If you have it available a few pieces of wood would help. (Yes, I am cleaning the ash out ahead of time for a roaring good fire...but NEED WOOD, ugh (cave man voice))
P.S. This is potluck. Bring food and drink to share.
